GRIMSBY TOWN KNOCKOUT SECOND SEMI-FINAL
BY ANN BOULTON
Fenner, last year’s beaten finalists in the Grimsby Town Knock Out, will be aiming to go one better when they begin their 2012 campaign
The final game in the first round of the competition sees the Hull side take on Caistor next Monday night for a place in the second semi-final.
Caistor captain Liam Wood has recruited up-and-coming youngster Dan Freeman, formerly with Horncastle and now training with the Nottinghamshire CCC Academy. Freeman is also on the Lincolnshire radar, making his debut last month.
Also in the Caistor side is their former player Nick Dobbs (now with Broughton), who is behind the stumps, and Sri Lankan all-rounder Sahan Wijerathne.
Facing them will be the familiar faces of brothers Dominic and Will Rhodes who started their careers with Fenner. Will is now with the Yorkshire Academy while Dom plays in the Yorkshire League.
The winner of this match will face Lincolnshire Cavaliers who went through with a one-run victory last weekend. Grimsby play Louth in the first semi-final on July 2.
Fenner v Caistor begins at 6.15pm. Admission is free for Grimsby Town CC members and £2 for non-members. Cars can be parked around the ground.
