OUTCASTS 2 v OMWBY FIRST GAME OFF

Just taken the first cancellation of the day (11.11am) Outcasts 2nds v Owmby, Lincolnshire League division two. Bad news for me - I was down to umpire!
The weather forecast is not good at all for this afternoon's programme, and at 11am (the earliest point for calling off games in the Lincolnshire League) it was raining in Brigg, and doubtless other places across the county.
It could turn into one of those awkward days for captains and secretaries.
Do you:
(a) Save the opposition a long drive possibly just to sit and watch the rain come down before the umpires abandon proceedings?
Or
(b) Do you risk the possible wrath of your own players by calling a game off early, only for the rain to stop later in the afternoon?
If the umpires turn up, they have to be paid; if the opposition arrive, and hang around long enough, you might be able to serve them tea, and at least recoup £25 for club funds.
I came a cropper more than once under both (a) and (b) as a club secretary in the Lincolnshire League, as have many others down the years.

  1. Very disappointed with the Outcasts game. Sun is out and is drying up over in the Isle.
