NOTTS LANDING

Perhaps a word of explanation is in order after last week's posting about Cleethorpes CC staging a Notts 2nd X1 fixture, as it strikes me younger cricketers in our fair county might be a shade puzzled.
Thousands of folk from the Midlands city used to flock to the east coast resort after the coming of the railways, and a reduced number still do, although perhaps more for a day or weekend now than for a full week's holiday.
There's still a pub called The Nottingham just off the seafront.
Cleethorpes CC have staged Notts first class, first team fixtures in the past, and some one-dayers. I remember watching the Sultan of Reverse Swing, Sarfraz Nawaz, play there, along with The Hon Tim Lamb, later to become the games's top administrator at Lord's. I think they were with Northants at the time. George Sharp, now a leading first class umpire, would have been behind the stumps.
Long may the links with Trent Bridge continue.
