LUDD LADS SECOND

By Glen Sands

After a complete washout on week one of the new campaign there was finally some cricket played last Thursday in the Snaith & District Evening League but not all scheduled games actually took to the field, whilst one in particular ended in the gloom with a result still in the balance.
In Division One, Fishlake travelled to Goole Town who batted first and posted a total of 105 allout - a target comfortably reached by the visitors who lost just two wickets in reply - while there was also a successful journey for Askern who brought back the three points from Sykehouse. Sadly, the third scheduled First Division fixture never took place as Drax were unable to select a team to travel to last season's Champions Luddington, Drax making the fateful call at 3.30 pm to concede.
There was a similar story in Division Two but this time it was home team Carlton Towers who found themselves short of personnel and had to concede to Howden Town, whilst Hensall ran out winners in thier home game against Goole Firemen whom they dismissedfor 68 before completing their victory. The Sturgethorpe v Hirst Courtney game ended somewhat unsatisfactorily when it became too dark for the Hirst batsmen in the second innings, bringing procedings to a premature end and a share of the spoils.
Pollington made a good start to their season with a 44 runs victory over Thorne Colliery, Pollington posting a total of 114 for 2 before restricting Thorne to 70 for 5 and there was an exciting finish to the game at Drax where their second team failed to overhaul the total set by Eggborough by just a single run in the nights closest encounter.
