DEBUT TON FOR BARTON'S BRADLEY (15)

By Glen Sands, North Lindsey League

The North Lindsey Sunday Cricket League got underway last weekend with five matches across the three Divisions scheduled to be played and it was business as usual for Division One Champions Cleethorpes 5ths as they began with a seven wicket victory over Appleby Frodingham 3rds.

DIVISION ONE

The Steelmen batted first at Chichester Road , making 121 all-out, a target that the Meggies reached for the loss of just three wickets, whilst at Heslam Park visiting Marshalls Sports set a tough target for Scunthorpe 4ths when posting a total of 205 for 9, Graves scoring 96 and D Andrews 64 as Carl McGregor took an excellent 6 for 26 for Town. Ian Snowden lad the reply along with Matt Pashley as Scunthorpe replied with 206 for 3, Snowden making 78 not out and Pashley 77 not out.

DIVISION TWO
Grimsby Town 3rds gained an impressive eight-wicket win at Haxey 3rds whom they bowled out for 90, Richard Evans taking 3 for 6 and Mahesh 3 for 37 with Elliott Groom top scoring on 26; then Grimsby's M Hinchcliffe guided his team home with 58 not out in a total of 91 for 2. Sadly the other scheduled game at Broughton (v Alkborough) was called off late on Sunday morning when the visitors rang to concede, being unable to field a team which left Broughton and the scheduled umpires kicking their heels in frustration.

DIVISION THREE
Just one game in Division Three following Epworth's request to re-arrange their visit to Isle neighbours Luddington but it was a game to remember for 15-year-old Bradley Graves of Barton Academy Vikings who hit his first ever ton as Barton scored 204 for 2 against Everton 3rds, Alex Shreeve scoring 43 for the Barton youngsters; then skipper Peter Dobson replied with 51, and Leech 45, as Everton made a real fist of chasing such a big total. but despite their best efforts they fell 30 runs short in what was a terrific match.

The two fixtures this Sunday in Division One will see Scunthorpe 4ths looking to continue their excellent form that saw them beat Marshalls Sports last weekend when they entertain Appleby-Frodingham 3rds who suffered a first day defeat against Champions Cleethorpes 5ths. Elsewhere, Caistor Cougars open their season with a home match against Marshalls Sports who posted over 200 against Scunthorpe a week ago but still ended up without a point to show for their endeavours.
In Division Two, Brigg Town 3rds entertain promoted North Wheatley & Leverton, whilE Broughton 3rds will hope for a belated start at home to Outcasts 3rds following their late setback against Alkborough 3rds. They themselves will hope for more personnel as they are set to travel to Haxey 3rds, and Grimsby Town 3rds, who won at Haxey last weekend, will look to make it two out of two when they entertain Hibaldstow 2nds at Augusta Street.
There are three scheduled games in Division Three, with Jeremy Evans' young Barton Vikings looking to follow up their outstanding form against Everton last week when they welcome Bottesford to Marsh Lane, whilst Everton themselves have a visit from relegated Luddington to look forward to as the Isle side make their seasons bow. Finally, Misterton 2nds are at home to Upton-cum-Kexby which heralds a first outing of the season for both clubs.
