Hope you didn't miss the fine page feature by Simon Briggs in Friday's Daily Telegraph sports supplement about Hamid Hassan, of Afghanistan - very much surprise qualifiers for the current televised World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies. Hamid went to Skegness as their overseas player and the article explained about his abilities in the "Lincolnshire premier league." Note: No mention of the three letters ECB!
Skeggy's Tony Santini was quoted as saying they found Hamid on YouTube.
All very interesting...but there are more Lincolnshire connections to the current world showpiece.
Kieron Pollard, the Windies all-rounder, played for Haxey before returning home early to take part in the initial Stanford big money tournament, while (going further back in time) New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram got his first taste of cricket in England with Scunthorpe's Appleby-Frodingham.
