If you are an umpire, don't send off a quick cheque in response to the latest letter from the ECB ACO (governing body of umps and scorers) suggesting you haven't paid your £20 annual subs and urging you to cough up quickly.
I took the trouble to check my bank statement first to prove I'd paid, scanned in the relevant lines and emailed it to Lord's. End result - general embarrassment at HQ, where "corrupted signals" triggered the system of sending out payment reminders.
Exactly how many other umpires have received such letters we can't say. Spread the word. Obviously you'd be sure to get your money back if you overpaid...eventually!
