SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE & BORDER LEAGUE MAY 19

By Ann Boulton

Spalding and Stamford retained their first and second places in the South Lincolnshire & Border League with victories over Moulton Harrox and Belton Park respectively while Lindum Ramblers moved into third after beating Sleaford 2nd.
But Billingborough were once again thwarted by the weather as an inspection of the Grantham pitch showed it was too wet to play.
Chris Kearns hit 76 for Spalding while Ben McCarrick notched up the day’s highest score of 98 for Woodhall Spa 2nd in a tight game against Bourne 2nd who finished their innings just 17 runs behind their opponents’ total.
An even tighter game in Division Two saw Welby beat Boston 2nd by 15 runs.  Boston remain top of the division but are now just one point ahead of Billingborough 2nd who scored a seven wicket victory over Baston, with newly promoted Blankney lying fourth.
Gary Peck hit the division’s highest total of 83 in Stamford 2nd’s win over Spalding 2nd.
League newcomers Lindum and Welby lead Division Three despite no play at the weekend – Lindum rained off at Burgh & District and Welby without a game after North Luffenham conceded.
Elsewhere, Boston 3rd enjoyed a hard fought game against Claypole who fell 18 short of their opponents total of 148 for four while Spalding 3rd beat Timberland by 27 runs, Jim Clarke hitting an unbeaten 72 for Spalding.
