ANOTHER WEEKEND WASHOUT FOR CLEETHORPES
By Graham Hackney
Cleethorpes Cricket Club's whole weekend programme became a victim of the atrocious weather with all four scheduled fixtures cancelled without a ball being bowled. Cleethorpes 1st X1's Yorkshire league match at Hull was called off Friday evening as was Sunday's National Knockout First round tie at Goole. This has been re-arranged for this coming Sunday. (May 6th). Cleethorpes 3rd X1 head the first division by virtue of seeing their home game with Horncastle called off Saturday morning, their third cancellation of the season giving them 15 points. Finally Sunday's 4th X1 fixture at Linden Homes was abandoned after the league refused permission to move the game to Chichester Road.

That last comment was uncalled for Ackers ,rules for changing fixtures are quite clear. The member clubs make them the committee have to apply them so put in a rule change if you don't agree.Be mindful that you could "dig a very deep hole" though .
ReplyDeleteOooh welton not happy
ReplyDeletejesus bob, common sense would be to let them change it surely??? All people want is a game of cricket!!
ReplyDeleteI see the brave are out again ! I'm very happy. You are absolutely right all people want is a game of cricket me included,ALL I would ask is why did these people put the rules in place because I certainly didn't ? Come on guys don't keep having a "go" at me or the committee all we can do is apply the rules put in place by ALL the member clubs . At least Ackers and I are prepared to be identified through our blogs .If you have been reading the blogs regarding the weather/cancelled games/changed fixtures/advantages being gained etc.you just might understand why I have been explaining the Officers position in these matters and why I am a little concerned that through frustration people may misunderstand my position . As I've said several times rules are made/changed by the majority vote of all the member clubs but I would advise very careful consideration of ALL eventualities before proposals are submitted because there will always be perceived exceptions as in this case and even more grumbles . The change of fixture was irrelevant anyway as it RAINED and the match couldn't have been played.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why Bob Welton is getting all this grief , I've known him for more than 35 years, a fairer more honest man you will never meet . He has served the Lincolnshire League with Distinction since App - Frod joined the Yorkshire League and has presided over the many changes clubs have passed during that time whether he agreed with them or not ! He is often misunderstood as it appears at the present time . I've found him to be a very worthy opponent on the field of play and a person ready to listen to sensible points of view and put reasonable counter views , but never bearing a grudge and having a drink in the clubhouse after a game . Come on support him , he is not responsible alone for the rules or the weather !
ReplyDeleteThanks for your words of support , makes a welcome change .
ReplyDeletefrom a coward though hey bob.
ReplyDeleteYes , just like you !!!

DeleteSo would I Neil ,probably a scorer at best , obviously has no knowledge of how cricket runs and doesn't do anything to find out . Mind you , with that BIG CHIP anonymous is carrying in his/her/it's head there isn't any room to store KNOWLEDGE .
ReplyDeleteWHAT A SHOCK !!!! CRICKETERS SO DESPERATE TO PLAY AFTER THE POOR WEATHER THAT A LINCOLNSHIRE ECB TEAM ACTUALLY PLAYED A GAME WITH ONLY 10 MEN . NOT A GOOD ADVERT FOR THE TOP TIER OF CRICKET WITHIN THE COUNTY OF LINCOLSHIRE IS IT ???
