By Graham Hackney

Cleethorpes 1st X1 look to consolidate second spot in the Yorkshire league when they face Sheffield United at Chichester Road this Saturday.(12 Noon Start). Cleethorpes 2nds travel to Caistor in the Lincs Premier Division while the 4th X1 entertain Cherry Willingham 2nds at Brocklesby Park. Cleethorpes Academy X1 face Holton le Clay in the East Lindsey league at Chichester Road (2pm Start) this Sunday.
After seeing Saturday’s match at Alford become a victim of the weather, Andy Haith’s 2nd X1 claimed 13 points out of the drawn game at home to Alkborough. Stuart Airey’s brilliant 118 in just 125 balls with good support from Ryan Harrison (22) lead Cleethorpes to a challenging 205-9 before the skipper adventurous declaration due to the rain showers. Cleethorpes bowlers immediately had Alkborough on the back foot before the rains set in to deny Cleethorpes an excellent win. Closing at 91-8, all the bowlers chipped in with Andy Severn 3/24 in 10 overs the pick of the attack while fellow spinner Stuart Harvey recorded 2/13 in 8 overs. Matty Owen and Fred Lumby also added wickets.
The rains also played a big part in Cleethorpes 3rds cup win at Keelby on Monday.Chasing Keelby’s challenging 171-9, they had reached 122-3 in 26 overs before the rains brought the game to an end. However they had ensured they were ahead off the run rate and were declared winners. Richard Woodward was the pick of the attack with 4/22 in 7 overs while Simon Taylor and Jeff Todd both picked up a pair of wickets. In replay good contributions from Skipper Ben Marris (23), David Mansfield (28) and Mike Chamberlain (28 not out) saw Cleethorpes home and into the next round.
Cleethorpes 4ths juniors produced an excellent bowling display to bowl Broughton 2nds out for 134 on Sunday. Ed Lumby’s 4/33 lead the way with Ryan Pearson taking 3/18 in six overs. Henry Tasker also added a brace of wickets but in reply they could only muster 113 to fall 21 runs short. Richard Woodward top scored with 23.
