BRIGG TOWN START ANOTHER SEASON

The Brigg Town team just prior to the start of their first home fixture of the season this afternoon (bank holiday Monday), minus two members who were a little late arriving.
These are scenes from this afternoon's cricket match in East Yorkshire Alliance division three between Brigg Town and Roos 2nds at the Recreation Ground, Brigg.
People often ask "yours truly" how Brigg are getting on, remembering the 30 years spent playing for Town. Indeed, a Misterton player asked me that question only yesterday prior to the match at Hibaldstow.
Well, Brigg Town CC is still functioning, playing in a league dominated by teams from Hull and district. There's now just one Brigg team - a far cry from how it was when they played in the Lincs League, the Humberside Alliance, the North Lindsey League, the Broughton Evening League, the West Wold and had juniors sides from under-11 to under-19 at various times.
The club played at Sir John Nelthorpe School for many years and also at the Brigg Sugar Factory venue.
However, Brigg Town CC began life in 1974 (in the Grimsby Saturday League) with Brigg Recreation Ground its base and the wheel has now turned full circle.
The ground is hired on a match-by-match basis from North Lincolnshire Council. The changing rooms look austere, behind a metal stockade to keep out vandals, but have showers and toilets.

The Roos opening batsmen taking two runs on the leg side.

Brigg Town's new cricket skipper Captain Beaky (Nigel Beacock, right) with former captain Phil Dewfall, who is the side's opening bowler.

A trio of new signings by Brigg Town Cricket Club - all from Barnetby.

Good fielding at square leg during the opening stages of this afternoon's match at Brigg Rec.

Long-serving Brigg Town Cricket Club all-rounder Jack Richards has seen damp and chilly starts to the season before.

Roos coping well with the early bounce at Brigg Recreation Ground as keeper Paul Harrison and the other close fielders wait in anticipation.

An attacking shot during the second over of the game.

Roos players waiting their turn to bat as the game unfolds out in the middle.
