SIX OF THE BEST AT CHICHESTER ROAD

From Ann Boulton

Lincolnshire Cricket Lovers’ Society begins the new season with a speaker who has managed to turn just one over of cricket into a complete book.
But this was not just any over, it was the six balls that Glamorgan’s Malcolm Nash bowled to Gary Sobers – who hit each one for six.
In the 40th anniversary year of this momentous batting achievement, Grahame Lloyd has produced Six of the Best, an analysis of each ball together with interviews with many of those who could say “I was there”.
Accompanying Grahame to Cleethorpes Cricket Club on Thursday, October 15 will be John Parkin, the Nottinghamshire batsman at the other end, who had a unique view of every Sobers’ shot.
This fascinating talk, which is a change to the published programme, includes a DVD of the action and recorded interviews and will make an entertaining first night for the Cricket Lovers.
Starting at 7.30pm, entrance is free to members and £5 for guests. Future speakers for the 2009/10 season include David Steele and Bill Flower, father of England Andy and Grant.
Membership of the society is £12 single, £16 joint and is free for under-18s. For further details ring 01472 877798.
