Only
three of the scheduled seven Snaith League games were played on June 27th due to
rain and wet conditions around the region but all three had an effect on matters
in both divisions.
SNAITH LEAGUE DIVISION ONEThe top of the table
clash between leaders Goole Town and Fishlake was postponed because ot the
weather which means Town remain two points ahead of Fishlake in the table while
Airmyn moved into equal third place when they beat lowly Burn by four wickets ,
Burn setting a target of 122 for 2 thanks 44 not out from R Adamson and 42 from
Montgomery only for Airmyn to overhaul them as Phil Sparked hit 44 and Mann 27
not out. That win moves Airmyn level on points with Outcasts who were rained off
at Hensall and there was no play possible at Askern Welfare who were due to play
Hirst Courtney.
SNAITH LEAGUE DIVISION TWOThe race for promotion
to Division One is heading for a thrilling finish as no less than four clubs are
seperated by only two points ! Thorne Colliery took over top spot after they
beat fellow contenders Eggborough by four wickets , Eggborough scoring 102 for 2
with 43 not out from Callum Tyson and 33 from Drew Pearson before Broughton hit
34 and Beaumont 22 as Thorne replied with 107 for 6 , leaving the Power Station
side two points back in fourth spot now. Howden gained a big win over Drax
Village to take them joint second with Carlton Towers who were rained off at
Pollington , Wes Pears hitting 77 and Toby Bodycombe 35 as Howden made 159 for 5
before Drax replied with 84 for 6 , Michael Pounder taking 3 for 6 from his four
overs to put Howden just one point behind leaders Thorne with what may well be a
vital game in hand.
July 4th will see the clubs into the final straight
of the season with Division One title hunters Goole Town and Fishlake taking on
Airmyn and Burn respectively. Outcasts play hosts to Askern Welfare at their
Hirst Priory ground and finally in the top flight Hirst Courtney welcome bottom
club Hensall who really need to start winning if they are to climb away from the
relegation zone.
Thorne Colliery have a home game against Sykehouse who
can be a match for anyone on their day whilst Howden head to Pollington looking
to keep up the pressure on the leaders and Carlton Towers will also be ready to
pounce should there be a slip if they can see off Drax Village in the one other
Second Division game.
