BROUGHTON EVENING LEAGUE ROUND-UP BY GLEN SANDS

Leaders Appleby Frodingham dropped their first points of the season on  Wednesday, July 3  when they tied their match at Barton Town but they remain five points clear at the top of the table nevertheless. Frod batted first at Marsh Lane and posted a total of 105 for 7 with Paul Hilton top scoring on 29 and Rhys Brown making 23 not out as Will Yates and Michael Hinchliffe both took two wickets each then Barton mirrored the visitors score as James Barker hit 40 and George Short 22 with Hilton and Scott Grimes picking up a brace of wickets apiece in a real nail biter.
Scunthorpe Scorpions closed to within five points of Frod in second when they narrowly defeated Broughton by just three runs , Ian Snowden scoring 46 not out for the Scorpions who made 109 for 7 when batting first , Shaun Clark taking an impressive 5 for 25 then Neil Simpson almost guided his team home only to fall for 38 as Broughton fell agonisingly short on 106 for 9 , Ram Chand taking 3 for 12 and Declan Toyne 3 for 22 for the relieved Scunthorpe side.
Finally in the battle of the bottom two Isle of Axholme side Luddington gained a comfortable eight wicket victory at Normanby Park who were held to a modest 76 for 9 thanks to Alex Fletcher who took 3 for 22 and Matthew " Flairs " Grimbleby who's bowling debut for Ludd saw him take 2 for 8 from three excellent overs then another debutant , John Stokoe , made 34 not out  alongside birthday boy Russell Fletcher who finished 15 not out as Luddington eased to 80 for 2.
