League
leaders Broughton certainly have the Indian sign on Outcasts who they beat for
the second time in a month to maintain their promotion push whilst at the same
time denting the Isle sides hopes, WRITES GLEN SANDS.Outcasts batted first on a cooler and
cloudier day than of late and soon found themselves one down when Oliver Coulman
was caught by Matt Hammond off Tom Reed for six with the total on 14 then fellow
opener Darren Clark went , bowled by a yorker by namesake Shaun Clark for eleven
with just five further runs on the board. Matthew Teal and John Stokoe began to
fight back and both hit some terrific boudaries as they added 46 runs in quick
time but Stokoe was struggling having been struck on the foot by a Shaun Clark
delivery that affected his mobility and he eventually went , bowled by Clark for
25 with the score standing at 65. Not a run had been added when Teal was well
caught by wicket keeper Paul Reed off Robbie Ward's first delivery and before
the over had finished visiting skipper Richard Wroot was also gone , caught by
Tom Brock as Outcasts middle order collapsed. Andy Torr and Graham Clark stuck
around , taking the score up to 98 before Torr was caught behind off Shaun Clark
for 18 having just been permitted a runner due to an injured hamstring. Clark
holed out to Matt Hammond off Ward for 15 having just brought up three figures
but the rest of the innings fell away poorly as the final three wickets went
down on 102 , Tom Brock picking up 2 for 1 whilst Shaun Clark ended with 3 for
56 and Robbie Ward 3 for 16.
To have any hope of competing Outcasts
needed early wickets but Broughton openers Matt Hammond and Neil Simpson were in
no mood to gift the visitors anything , putting on 58 for the first wicket then
Hammond was bowled by a beauty from Liam McAnaney which swung late to bowl the
home skipper for 22. New signing Ollie Booth hit one boundary before he creamed
a ball straight to Andy Torr off Matthew Teal then spin bowler Craig McAnaney
entered the fray and picked up three wickets in his first over , having Tom Reed
caught by Teal , Craig Hall caught behind by Richard Wroot and bowling Shaun
Clark which for a moment had the home side pondering a possible collapse at 82
for 5. Neil Simpson was still at the crease however and he brought up his own
half century with a boundary and along with Paul Reed he guided his team to 103
for 5 and a full twenty points haul.
So Outcasts once again failed to
give Broughton a game , as seems to be the case whenever they meet in the Lincs
League. They take on Holton le Clay on July 27th whilst Broughton will head to
Owmby happy in the knowledge that the holidaying players missing over the past
few weeks will soon be back.
