GRIMSBY TOWN KNOCK OUT LATEST FROM ANN BOULTON

A hard hitting innings from 19 year old Lindum player Luke Robinson and tight bowling from Market Rasen’s Matt Rutherford put paid to Grimsby Town’s hopes of a third successive knock out championship.
Robinson came to the crease after Lee Charlton had dismissed both Lincolnshire Cavaliers openers for 22 runs.  The Lincoln batsman then swiftly lost two partners as Joel Hamilton struck twice in the next over, leaving the score 28 for four in the fifth over of the game.
This brought Geoff Middleton out to join his Lindum team mate and by the time Robinson was caught behind off Hamilton for 68 – in which he hit two sixes and four fours – this partnership had added 97 and the innings was in the 15th over.
In the race for runs at the finish, Middleton was run out for 32 as Cavaliers finished on 152 for seven, Hamilton with three for 33 off his four overs.
Grimsby suffered an early blow when Steve Crossley was bowled by David White in the first over of the innings and Harry Warwick then suffered the same fate at the hands of Matt Webb in the second.
But Ricky Lovelace, guesting from Skegness, and Rob Cook, man of the match in Grimsby’s first round fixture, steadied the slide, putting on 35 before Cook became the first of Rutherford’s victims, lbw for 22.
Rutherford struck again in each of his next two overs to leave Grimsby 63 for six and when Lovelace was run out for 29, Cavaliers were on the road to victory.  Brendan Volley treated the crowd to some big hitting with assistance from Charlton and ended unbeaten on 26 but at the close Grimsby were well short of their target on 116 for nine, Rutherford taking four for 18 off his four overs.
Robinson was named Man of the Match for his fine innings that helped put Cavaliers through to the final where they will meet the winners of next week’s match between Louth and Cleethorpes.
