SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE & BORDER LEAGUE - JULY 21
Billingborough moved closer to the South Lincolnshire & Border League championship with a comprehensive victory over Bourne 2nd. But the reigning champions failed to gain the full 20 points after their visitors hung on to finish eight down.
Geordie Scott and Dave Newman hit 156 and 158 respectively as Billingborough notched up 334 for one but despite David Gollop’s five wickets, Bourne’s 45 overs ended on 119 for eight.
With the weather once again wrecking the Division One programme, only one other game was played which saw Skegness 2nd beat Lindum Ramblers by three wickets. Lindum now lie fifth with the seasiders just six points behind in sixth.
Division Two fared much better with all games played to a finish and Welby consolidating their top place after bowling Billingborough 2nd out for just 37, Jonathan Durham taking six for six off seven overs. Earlier Simon Meadows had hit 50 and Angus Youles 49 in Welby’s innings of 156 all out.
Spalding stay second following a six wicket win over Thomas Cook but Boston 2nd and Heckington are now neck-and-neck in third after Boston were bowled out for just 50 chasing Heckington’s 144, of which Will Charlesworth hit 53.
Neil Gilbert was the pick of the day’s bowling, his eight for 19 off 11 overs setting up Blankney’s victory over Moulton Harrox and moving his side above Cavaliers in the table despite the Peterborough side ending a lean spell with a 26 run victory over Baston, Tom Wilkin taking five wickets for Cavaliers.
Claypole played themselves into a good position to challenge for the Division Three championship when they defeated fellow high flyers Friskney by just 11 runs to go third with a game in hand over their opponents.
Timblerland moved into fourth following a two wicket win over Pinchbeck for whom Harry Waine took five wickets. For the victors, John Wright hit 52 not out and took two wickets.
