Skegness opened up a gap at the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League after Sleaford pulled off the result of the day, beating challengers Haxey by four wickets.
But the leaders almost let their opportunity slip at Augusta Street after having batted themselves into a winning position, beating Grimsby by just two wickets.
Grimsby were bowled out for 121, Skegness skipper Saeed Bariwala taking four wickets and at 70 for three, the seasiders looked comfortable. But the Grimsby bowlers stuck to their task, the wicket of the Paul Butler, who looked set to repeat last weekend’s dogged performance, giving them fresh impetus. But David Jacobs and Jamie Epton kept the scoreboard ticking over and Jacobs was there at the close to help Skegness claim 20 points, giving them a lead of 22 over Haxey,
Sleaford moved into fifth following their victory which saw Haxey collapse after a good start, Nick Goacher and Garry Park doing the damage for the home side. Matthew Mountain and Jonathan Adams got Sleaford off to a similar start and despite two run outs and a minor middle order collapse, Tom Shorthouse (37no) and Sam Gascoyne saw their side home.
Boston won the bottom of the table battle with ease, restricting Hartsholme to 110 for nine, new wicketkeeper Matthew Hood taking two catches and two stumpings and Colin Cheer bowling an economical 17 overs to finish with three for 27.
Jonathan Cheer then hit 78 and in partnership with Will Trim (27no) took Boston to a 10 wicket win which moved them above their opponents.
But any hopes that Boston had of closing in on 10th placed Lindum were dashed when the Lincoln side hit the highest total of the day, finishing 263 for seven. Geoff Middleton made 84, sharing a second wicket partnership of 133 with George Neal (49) and Gayan de Silva made an unbeaten 37 to help Lindum to 263 for seven.
In reply, Market Deeping set off steadily, reaching 114 for three but then lost quick wickets. When Josh Bowers was out for 58, the score was 127 for six and the final wicket fell on 150, de Silva claiming three victims.
Bourne’s waterlogged pitch saw their game against Louth called off and Woodhall Spa’s fixture against Bracebridge Heath takes place on Monday, August 27.
