It was cup-semi-final weekend in divisions two and three of the North Lindsey Cricket League on Sunday, with three of the four ties being played.
In the Division Two Cup, Messingham 3rds set a target of 132 against Alkborough 3rds with 66 from Bridges, Ian Roden taking 5 for 28 for the visiting side who squeezed through by two wickets thanks chiefly to Dave Kilgallon who hit 72 not out to guide his team through to meet Haxey 3rds who had a five wicket victory over Dean Cressey's Cleethorpes 5ths out on the Isle. The Meggies were bowed out for 116 with Mike Chamberlain top scoring on 31, Danny Bullock taking an exceptional 5 for 27 and Mark Atkins 3 for 11 before Perer hit 37 and skipper Oliver Tonks 33 not out to earn Haxey their final berth at Hibaldstow on August 26.
There was a nailbiting finish to the Division Three Cup semi-final at Luddington who bowled Broughton 4ths out for 76, thanks to Arron Curry who took 4 for 11 and Darren Clark who picked up 3 for 15 , Sam Benson top scoring for Broughton who battled hard and had Ludd struggling at 26 for 5 at one stage before the Isle side sneaked home by just two wickets, Clark top scoring with 28 while Tom Reed took 3 for 14, although the winning runs came from four byes! The other semi between Upton cum Kexby and Blyth CC will take place on one of the next two Sundays, once the clubs have agreed a mutually acceptable date.
