BAD WEATHER TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN DECIDING LINCS LEAGUE TROPHIES

The Lincolnshire County Cricket League's mid-season meeting at Market Rasen's Rase Park HQ this week decided the qualification for winning individual trophies should be altered (as a one-off measure), in view of the number of games already washed out.
For 2012 the yardstick for making it into the end-of-season averages and being eligible to win trophies across the five divisions will be reduced to 250 runs and 20 wickets.
It was pointed out at the meeting that, using the usual criteria, it is already impossible for some players to make the averages and qualify for trophies, in view of the number of games rained off.
However, league chairman Bob Welton made it quite clear at the onset that there's no way that this season can just be written off, in terms of promotion and relegation - something he had heard some people suggesting ought to happen.
Bob described 2012 as "a garbage season" in terms of the weather. "But there's absolutely nothing that we can do about it," he said. "There's nothing in the rules about abandoning a season."
The chairman said he had been studying the league tables in old league handbooks going back to the 1960s and could find nothing to compare with the number of matches lost in 2012.
The Lincolnshire League continues to discuss how it is to mark the 50th anniversary in 2013. The planned centrepiece will be a mid-June Sunday Twenty-20 tournament involving players drawn from all the divisions. Cleethorpes CC have already kindly offered their Chichester Road ground. It is hoped the event will be well supported.
The meeting heard that former members Normanby Park Cricket Club, near Scunthorpe, have submitted an application to rejoin for 2013. This was well ahead of the deadline - July 31. Normanby's application will be considered at the league AGM in October.
Any Lincs League clubs wishing to submit rule change proposals need to do so by August 31 to general secretary Andrew Richley.

Chichester Rd made available is a very nice gesture. If its a well supported day which it should be (weather permitting) a great deal of money will be made over the bar and via the excellent burgers on the bbq. Maybe a generous donation should be made to a charity as surely a Lincs league club should not benefit financially from this historic event.

  2. Simple solution. Pay Cleethorpes exactly the same for ground rent as the County pays those clubs that host junior fixtures (£0) and let the Lincs League organise an outdoor bar and catering. All profit can then go to a good cause and no suggestions of one club profiting.
I'm sure Fingers will volunteer to run the BBQ....
