SPORTSMASHIP TO THE FORE

From Ann Boulton
Re. the story re injury on Lincs Cricket Latest, we witnessed a small but sporting gesture today.
Bracebridge Heath were playing in the Area Finals of the Cockspur Cup (having gone through as Winkworth Cup winners) against Wickersley from the South Yorkshire League. Wickersley were batting, chasing 159 when wicketkeeper Jason Scheepers got hit in the face and went down. The batsmen ran one then realised he was hurt so walked back to their positions and declined the run.
This could have been crucial as the scores ended up tied but Wickersley won less wickets lost. Happily, Jason was OK to carry on.
Bracebridge then lost to New Farnley of the Central Yorkshire League so went out of the competition, leaving the other two teams to battle it out for a place in the Regional Finals at the end of the month.
The matches were played at Tickhill, near Bawtry, which is a very nice ground and the club put on a really good day with bacon butties and drinks on arrival, a BBQ later, proper commentary etc.
