TIGHT TIMES IN SNAITH EVENING LEAGUE DIV TWO

BY GLEN SANDS

Goole Town and Fishlake have opened a gap at the top of the Snaith League Division One table while things are much tighter in Division Two where the lead changed hands following a first defeat of the season for Eggborough.

SNAITH LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
Leaders Goole set a fearsome target for Askern Welfare to chase , posting a score of 171 for 5 with Ben Earl hitting 53 , Ash Nottingham 35 and Kerr 33 , Askern's Adam Carr taking 3 for 18 then his team replied with 98 for 8 , Ashley Towler scoring 64 leaving them 73 runs behind Goole's total. The clash between third and second out on the Isle of Axholme saw Fishlake restrict Outcasts to 102 for 9 , Jon Bramhill top scoring with 37, only for Josh Mason to hit 43 and Kev Pearson 39 as Fishlake eased to victory and in doing so opened a gap of four points between the teams. Elsewhere in Division One Airmyn gained a splendid victory at Hirst Courtney where Phil Alford contributed 69 in Hirsts 144 for 6 only for Airmyn to overhaul that total when reaching 145 for 5 and finally in the battle of the teams at the foot of the table Hensall made 93 against Burn who lost seven wickets in chasing the total down and in doing so leapfrogged them in the table.

SNAITH LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
Howden Town are the new leaders in Division Two after winning by seven wickets at Sykehouse who batted first and made 62 for 6 , Oliver Rothwell making 18 not out before Howden cruised to their target whilst the clash of the day in Division Two saw Carlton Towers beat Eggborough to join them in joint second. Oliver Lister hit 84 , his best ever career score to date , and David Hoe 39 as Carlton set a target of 156 for 8 and despite the best efforts of C Tyson who hit 58 not out they ended the innings on 134 for 6 , Josh Oldridge taking 3 for 24 and Matthew Fenton 3 for 10 for the improving Carlton side. Thorne Colliery have a man in form by the name of Ash Langdale who hit 75 not out in the Cup on June 3rd and added another 72 not out in the league against Drax Village as Thorne scored 193 for 3 , Luke Cockburn adding 42 and Connor Martin 34 then Drax replied with 87 for 5 thanks chiefly to Paul Vickers who hit 41 , Sam Appleby taking 3 for 10 and John Appleby 2 for 18 to earn Colliery an emphatic win. Sad to report that yet again Goole Firemen failed to fulfil their scheduled fixture , this time at home v Pollington who did make the journey for the game. This situation is now becoming intolerable and it is essential that someone from the club contacts either Steve Carr or Glen Sands even if it is to officially stand down from the league so that all other Div Two teams know where they stand.
