BROUGHTON EVENING LEAGUE ROUND-UP BY GLEN SANDS

There were runs a plenty at Heslam Park on Wednesday, June 5th between Scunthorpe Scorpions and near neighbours Appleby-Frodingham with the visiting Steelmen claiming the points after a 15 runs victory. Matt Fowler hit 52 and Alex Grimes 53 before both retired as per league rules in Frods total of 170 for 5 then Liam Redmond replied with a half century of his own as the Scorpions fell 15 runs short on 155 for 5. Barton Town won for the first time in the Broughton Evening League when posting a total of 103 for 3 at Normanby Park thanks chiefly to 49 from George Short and 32 from Tom Palin then Will Yates took 4 for 6 and the ever improving Lucas Waller 4 for 9 as Normanby were bowled out for 61 , Mark Knapton hitting 26. Finally reigning Champions Broughton appeared set for a huge score against Luddington when they stood at 76 for 2 off just seven overs but the Isle side fought back to bowl them out for 117 , Jon Wroot taking 5 for 33 and Liam McAnaney 4 for 21 after the classy Nick Dobbs had made 39 and Robbie Glentworth 30 for Broughton who then restricted Ludd to 79 for 8 , Craig Hall picking up impressive figures of 4 for 11 including the prized wicket of Andy Lawson who top scored with 35.Leaders Appleby Frodingham play hosts to Normanby Park on June 12th in a top v bottom clash while Champions Broughton travel to Barton Town for their next outing and finally Scunthorpe Scorpions head out to the Isle of Axholme to take on Andy Lawson's Luddington.
