MACCA 'DOES A BOTHAM' FOR OUTCASTS WITH HOOK FOR SIX

BY GLEN SANDS

It was Cup weekend in the Amazing Smile North Lindsey Cricket League on Sunday (June 16th) with four quarter finals played as well as one outstanding Division Three fixture. And there were some excellent performances as the semi-finals took shape.
Second Division Alkborough produced a giant-killing act when beating First Division Appleby-Frodingham by seven wickets.
Frod posted a total of 143 for 5, with Alex Grimes scoring an impressive 71, but Vaidik Kishan Raj, with 60, and Dave Kilgallon (62) guided Alkborough to 144 for 3 and a semi-final game against Caistor Cougars.
They were involved in a real thriller at Blyth, who had been the giant killers of round one.
Blyth batted first, making 169 all out, Andy Toft top scoring on 44 and Ben Barrick taking 4 for 34.
The Cougars went on to hit the winning run in the final over, being thankful to Harry Boulton who hit a tremendous, unbeaten 112 in their reply of 170 for 6.
Scunthorpe Town were made to fight for their win over Second Division Outcasts whose 96 looked to be far from enough, Liam McAnaney top scoring with 19 including a rare hook shot for six reminiscent of Ian Botham in his pomp.
Jake Smith was Scunthorpe's most successful bowler, taking 4 for 13. And mention should also go to Jamie Brumby who took a stunning one-handed diving catch that had it been televised would have been shown over and over again!
Outcasts fought hard to restrict Scunthorpe, having them 48 for 5 at one stage.
But Ian Snowden saw the Town team home with 36 not out to set up a semi-final trip to Grimsby Town on August 11.
Grimsby secured their place in the last four when beating Messingham by seven wickets at Augusta Street, Ian Dawson making 50 not out for Messingham who set a target of 133 for 9 only for Brendan Volley to guide Town home with a classy half-century.
The draw for the Amazing Smile KO Cup semis, scheduled for Sunday August 11, is:
Grimsby Town  v  Scunthorpe Town
Caistor Cougars  v  Alkborough  (venue switched as Alkborough are hosting the Bob Welton Cup final).

DIVISION THREE
Cleethorpes moved three points clear at the top when beating South Kelsey by 60 runs.
Mike Chamberlain hit 70 and Stuart Wood 45 in their total of 97 for 9, Matt Thompson taking 4 for 28 and Roly Smith 3 for 40.
Kelsey were bowled out for 137, Smith making 47 and Thompson 34 to enhance their all-rounder status. Callum Carter picked up 5 for 28 for the Meggies.
