SALLY IN NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT

Lincolnshire umpire Sally Newton features in an interesting article in the May issue of the Association of Cricket Officials' Newsletter - a prestigious publication distributed to umpires and scorers all round the country.
Below we offer a link so you can download your own copy, including Sally's article. There's always plenty of topical information in the publication, which is edited by Pierre Tartari.
Further to Lincolnshire League clubs being told at their last meeting about the ECB's progress towards having competent and qualified scorers at games, we will refer you to the piece on page 21, which explains a rule change brought in by the Derbyshire County Cricket League. In that competition it's now 3pts deducted in divisions 1, 2 and 3 if a team doesn't provide a competent scorer (and a player CANNOT undertake such duties!).
There's also a fascinating piece about the Bradford League, where an 82-yer-old has adapted to using laptops for online scoring at games. These are now commonplace in the competition.

If you are thinking of taking up umpiring, perhaps at the end of this season, this magazine is well worth reading. Training courses will run during the close season. If you wish to find out further information, post a comment here, with your email address, stating where you live, and I'll get back to you with contact details for your nearest association. We always need more umpires!
