The North Lindsey Sunday Cricket League got underway on May Day in bright but very chilly conditions and there were several performances of note to open proceedings.
DIVISION ONE
Champions Cleethorpes 5ths were given a tough battle at Barton where they took on the Acadamy Vikings side who posted a total of 198 for 9 thanks chiefly to 52 not out from Reece Ogle and 41 from Alec Shreeve , Harry Clewitt picking up 3 for 35 for the seasiders who replied with 202 for 6 , their winning runs coming in the final over of an exciting match . Patrick Hughes scored an entertaining 93 whilst Rob Brice was there at the end unbeaten on 41, all rounder Ogle taking 3 for 57 for the Humbersiders. The one other First Division match saw Scunthorpe 4ths entertain Caistor Cougars at Heslam Park , scoring 170 for 7 in their allotted 40 overs with youngster Luke Smith making 58 not out added too by Michael McGillvary who hit 38 but the Cougars stalked down that target with four wickets to spare thanks to Andy Pearson's quickfire 58 not out aided by Tom Boryszczuk who had earlier played his part when taking three wickets.
DIVISION TWO
It was a day of personal bests in Division Two with two players known better for their bowling exploits hitting their best ever batting scores. Paul Mitchell moved into the all rounder class when scoring an exceptional 96 against Barton Town 4ths as Alkborough 3rds made 241 for 9 at West Halton Road , Craig Ross also hitting 70 for the home side , Ian Phillips taking 4 for 31 for Barton who were bowled out for 108 in reply with Tom Palin scoring 35 , Alex Jenkins taking 3 for 30 whilst that man Mitchell took two wickets and three outfield catches on what was a day to remember for the affable Alkborough skipper. The other player to star with the bat was Liam McAnaney of Outcasts 3rds who scored his first ever half century when making 64 not out as the Isle side reached 193 for 7 at Hibaldstow 2nds , 15 year old Josh Bramhill scoring 25 whilst Peter Taylor took 3 for 69 for Hibaldstow who were bowled out for 168 in reply , Dale Coy hitting 73 with Alex Fletcher picked up 3 for 29 as the Priorymen made a winning start to the season. There was one other game in Division Two which saw Broughton 3rds comfortably beat Haxey 3rds by 9 wickets , Shaun Clark taking an impressive 3 for 1 as Haxey were bowled out for 73 before Nick Dobbs ( 37 not out ) and Neil Simpson ( 22 not out ) guided Broughton home.
