Liam McAnananey, captain of Outcasts 3rds, is seen here at Hibaldstow - famous for the big tree inside the boundary - after making a career-best 64 not out against Dale Coy's village line-up in the North Lindsey League on Sunday.
Renowned as a left-arm seam bowler and generally a tail-end batsman, Liam promoted himself up the order to number seven in this game and then surprised everyone with a fine range of strokes. True, he enjoyed a bit of luck along the way. But who doesn't?
Hibaldstow's well-tended square was again a real credit to Lincolnshire groundsman of the year, Jon Taylor, who played in this match.
Amusement came at one point when a horse put out to pasture in a nearby field popped its head over the hedge to watch Liam almost double his previous best score of 37.
My final half-century of a totally unremarkable, but very enjoyable, 30-year playing career was made at Hibaldstow.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be Liam's last.
Judging by Sunday's display, Outcasts ought to consider moving Liam up the order a bit and trying to persuade him to make more of his batting when appearing for the first team in Lincs League div one.
