MITCH STARS IN THRILLER

By Glen Sands
It was a chilly weekend for cricket but that didn't deter many excellent performances in the North Lindsey League which saw nine matches played across all three divisions.

DIVISION ONE
Messingham 3rds have won both of their opening fixtures, the latest coming via a 22 runs margin against Caistor Cougars. Messingham were in a spot of trouble on 78 for 6 before New Zealander Donovan Deeble took command of their innings , making 87 as they went on to register a total of 179 all out , Joe Smith taking 4 for 51 and Tom Boryszczuk 4 for 53 for the Cougars but they were bowled out for 157 despite an excellent contribution of 54 from Pearson , Kieran Lindley picking up 3 for 17 for early leaders Messingham. The other Division One match saw Grimsby Town 3rds gain their first points of the season when beating Scunthorpe 4ths by 57 runs , George Linde hitting 48 and Connor Hawkins 43 in the Grimsby total of 170 all out , Joe Colebeck taking 4 for 21 and Ramesh Chand 4 for 75 and it was Chand who contributed most with the bat for Scunthorpe , making 50 in their all out total of 113 , Hawkins chipping in with 4 for 14 to earn Grimsby their victory.

DIVISION TWO
Alkborough 3rds skipper Paul Mitchell is having the season of his life so far with the bat and he once again starred with the willow as his side won a thriller at Wheatley & Leverton. The Gainsborough outfit posted a total of 204 all out thanks largely to young skipper Jonathan Loates who hit 69 and Callum Harrison who made 36 , Liam Hebblewhite taking 4 for 56 for Alkborough but Mitch saw his side home in the very last over with an unbeaten 82 aided by 31 valuable runs from stalwart Chippy Clay , Alkborough winning by just two wickets to claim joint top spot in the league table. They share the top spot with Outcasts 3rds who beat Isle neighbours Haxey 3rds by 19 runs and they had the day's only centurian in the guise of Jamie Belton who hit 102 as the Priorymen made 201 for 8 , Jon Stanser picking up 5 for 68 for Haxey and he also hit 59 as they replied with 182 for 7 , falling 19 runs short of their opponents target. Hibaldstow 2nds gained their first win of the new season when they bowled Broughton 3rds out for 91 , Josh Cowling taking 5 for 15 and Peter Taylor 5 for 45 , but they were made to battle for the points as Broughton took seven Hibaldstow wickets before their score was overhauled.

DIVISION THREE
Everton 3rds are the early pace setters in Division Three and they achieved an excellent 13 runs victory at nearby Misterton 2nds with only nine men ! Batting first they made 120 all out thanks chiefly to man of the match G Rehmen's 35 not out , home skipper Darren Emmingham taking 3 for 40 for Misterton who were then bowled out for 107 with that man Rehmen taking 5 for 27 , R Taylor top scoring for Misterton with 30. Upton cum Kexby opened their account for the season by beating Bottesford by 85 runs , Hayden Green hitting 53 in an all out total of 196 with Watkins taking 6 for 57 for Dave Willey's men who replied with 111 all out , M Khan top scoring with 36 not out. New boys Normanby Park entertained the newly named Isleonians who posted a target of 181 for 5 thanks to 44 from Rick Green and 31 from Strawbridge and despite some excellent late order resistance from youngster Alex Czabaniuk who made 30 not out and 28 from the more senior Mark Knapton they fell 25 runs short , Carroll taking an impressive 4 for 61 for the Isle side and the final game saw another Isle side gain their first victory of the season when Luddington emphatically defeated Broughton 4ths by 94 runs. Andy Lawson top scored with 43 when Ludd posted a score of 141 all out , Tom Brock taking 5 for 18 and Jack Siddall 4 for 19 but Paul Reed's 18 was the only real resistance offered in an all out total of 47 as Graham Clark picked up 5 for 27 and Matthew Mellers 4 for 19.
