BLISTERING BOWLING

Chris Richardson celebrating reaching 50.

Cleethorpes successful start to the season continued on Saturday with the Paul Sunley’s 2nd X1 maintaining the pace at the top of the Lincs Premier League. A blistering bowling display saw them bowl Caistor out for a meagre 70 runs with Rob Brice taking a stunning 5/12 in ten overs. Peter Thompson (2/35) and Fred Lumby (2/11) gave good support with Sunley also adding a late wicket. Ryan Harrison and Eddie Carlton followed up their century opening partnership at Bracebridge last week with another half century stand before Carlton went for 30 with victory in sight. Harrison remained 27 not out as Cleethorpes reached their target after only 18.1 overs to pick up 20 pts.

Cleethorpes 3rds also have maximum points after two games following yesterday’s demolition of Keelby. Having beaten the same side by 5wkts last week, Jeff Todd’s side batted first and racked up 222-3 in their 45 overs. Will Abe (26) and Ben Marris (29) added 56 for the first wicket before Dan Tolson (77 not out) and Kris Richardson (63) put on 118 for the third wicket. Callum Robinson chipped in with 16 not out. In reply Fred Lumby blew away the top order with 3/7 in seven overs ably supported by Matty Owen (1/7 in 7) Stuart Harvey came on and immediately started to weave his magic to pick up 4/17 in 9.4 overs while Todd and Lewis Markham also picked up wickets as Keelby were rolled over for just 57 in 32.4 overs to give Cleethorpes 20pts.

Kev Blewitt’s 4th’s came agonisingly close to claiming an unlikely win at South Kelsey 2nds on Saturday. Chasing 135 for victory they slipped to 89-9 before a last wicket stand of 44 left them just one run short of tieing the game when Kris Hall was bowled for 26. Andy Severn remained 11 not out after Andy Haith and Jack Gibson had both earlier hit 22. Ian Mansfield (4/19 in 6) had been the pick of the Cleethorpes attack with Severn (2/20 in 8.2) with Haith and Paul Nillson also adding wickets
