N LINCS U11s WIN COUNTY TOURNAMENT

By Patrick Tonks, Haxey CC

North Lincolnshire’s junior representative squad emulated the success of this year’s U14s by winning the Lincolnshire County Cricket Board Area Development Groups Annual Under 11 Hardball Tournament at Lindum Cricket Club on Friday, 23rd July.
The event has now been held nine times and it is the fifth occasion on which the Trophy has been won by players from the Scunthorpe area.
North beat North East, East and their closest rivals, South, thanks, in the main, to very strong batting performances.
Although the players were not made aware of it, only a catastrophic defeat against Lincoln District in their final match would prevent them securing overall victory, net runs coming into play when sides finished level on points.
A careless batting performance was chiefly responsible for their defeat by Lincoln, losing seven wickets in the eight overs of the innings. This was the same number lost in the previous three matches. However, the resulting reduction in net runs still left them well clear of their nearest rivals.
