SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE AND BORDER CRICKET LEAGUE - MAY 10, 2014 BY ANN BOULTON

SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE & BORDER LEAGUE

May 10

Rain forced the cancellation of three South Lincolnshire & Border League Premier Division games that involved the top four teams.
But Long Sutton scored a convincing 10 wicket victory over Stamford Town to move up into a position to challenge the leading pack while Belton Park won a tight game against Welby by just one wicket to go sixth, two points behind Long Sutton.
Paul Edgeller and Barry Stanway both took five wickets for Long Sutton as Stamford were bowled out for just 28 but Belton Park were left chasing 172 after Michael Gilbert had hit 85, Luke Pollard taking five for 32 for Belton.
Welby were all out in the 40th over, gifting their opponents five overs which were to prove crucial.
Belton were 76 for four before a fifth wicket partnership between Richard Cocks and Gavin Clarke added 53.  Wickets then tumbled and on 138 for seven, the game swung back Welby’s way.  However, the lower order dug in and Belton used up two of the five overs they had games before finally claiming victory.
In the only other game played in the top division, Sleaford 2nd made 211 for five before bowling Woodhall Spa 2nd out for 105.
In Division One, leaders Market Deeping 2nd were without a game but second placed Spalding 2nd failed to capitalise, going down to Grantham 2nd who hit 177 for five thanks to 76 from Matthew Wing and 66 from Josh Mihill.
Up and coming junior, 14 year old Mohammad Bhat then took three wickets for four runs on his debut for the team to help bowl Spalding out for 61.
Aaron Pullum took four wickets and Shane George three as Billingborough 2nd bowled Baston out for 30 and went on to win by 10 wickets but a much closer game at Heckington saw the home side fail by just 13 runs to reach Woodlands’ total of 135 despite an innings of 51 from Chris Morley.
Only two games were played in Division Two, Boston 3rd with the top score of the day of 217 for six against Burgh & District who were all out for 124 and Grantham with a 10 wicket win after bowling Spalding 3rd out for 40.
