PLENTY TO SMILE ABOUT AS NORTH LINDSEY CRICKET LEAGUE 2014 GETS UNDERWAY

There were runs a plenty on May 4th as the Amazing Smile North Lindsey League got under way in earnest with no less than five players scoring a hundred across all three divisions, WRITES GLEN SANDS.

DIVISION ONE
There were two hundreds at Brumby Hall where Appleby Frodingham beat Haxey and it was their overseas players who both hit three figures , David Brent retiring on 102 for Frod before Josh Savage replied with exactly 100 for the Isle side , Jack Dixon ( 52 no ) and Matt Fowler 38 ) scoring well for the Steelmen who had a star bowler in the guise of young George Forrester who picked up an impressive 6 for 29 with his slow left arm deliveries. Craig Ross was another man to hit a ton , retiring on 100 as Alkborough stacked up 280 for 1 against a relatively young Scunthorpe Town side , Dave Kilgallon finishing on 89 not out and Andy Williamson on 58 not out ( his maiden half century ). Ben Brumby batted well for Town , making 72 in their reply of 130 for 7.

DIVISION TWO
Outcasts CC have never seen the like before as Josh Bramhill hit 118 not out at Hibaldstow to become the third club player to hit a ton over the weekend. Young Bram top scored in a total of 263 for 3 , Peter Tait adding 43 to his Saturday ton and skipper Scott Buttrick 42 then team mate Graeme Fletcher took centre stage with the ball when taking 6 for 47 as Hibaldstow were bowled out for 120 , Mark Nicholson making 43 for Jon Taylor's men. There was almost another ton at Cleethorpes where Caistor Cougars opener Harry Boulton hit 92 in his sides total of 209 for 4 , overseas Lane Tutty adding 41 for the Cougars but the Meggies made it two out of two wins for the season when they reached 210 for 5 , Patrick Hughes making 58 and Tumi Masekela 47 to guide their team home.

DIVISION THREE
The fifth century of the day came at Messingham where opener Matthew Snee hit 108 as the Neil Birkitt's side set a big target of 259 for 8 for League new boys Bawtry CC , Elliott Markham adding 50 with Jackson Ellis picking up 3 for 26 for Bawtry who replied with 97 all out , the wickets being shared around the Messingham bowlers. Normanby Park's young guns travelled to Marsh Lane in what was their first game back after a years absence and they came up against an in form Tom Palin who took 7 for 21 in Normanby's total of 48 , Deon Spikings and Caitlen Phillips each picking up their first wickets for the senior side but it was the more senior pair of James and Mark Austin who saw the Vikings to a ten wicket victory. Finally South Kelsey suffered due to Grimsby Town's Conference Play off Semi Final at Gateshead as they were several players down and were unable to send a team over to play Upton cum Kexby.

SUNDAY MAY 11 PREVIEW
The two teams who scored heavily on May 4th go head to head at Brumby Hall on Sunday when Appleby Frodingham take on Alkborough while Haxey and Grimsby will be looking to pick their first points of the season when they clash on the Isle. The other Division One match takes Broughton to Heslam Park where Scunthorpe Town will also be looking to break their duck
The big match in Division Two is undoubtedly the Isle derby at Hirst Priory where Outcasts host their North Axholme neighbours Luddington in a match that will be keenly contested while Caistor Cougars and Everton meet at Caistor with both teams yet to register a win. Finally in Division Two Hibaldstow head over to Blyth CC , the teams having been seperated by two divisions last year.
Misterton make their season's bow when they travel to play Normanby Park and the league's newest team Bawtry enterain Upton cum Kexby , both sides being locked together on three points in the table. Heavy scoring Messingham host South Kelsey at Northfield Road in the one other Third Division fixture.
