AMAZING SMILE NORTH LINDSEY LEAGUE CRICKET MAY 18, 2014

It was a busy day in the Amazing Smile NLL on May 17th as the sponsors Knock Out Cup took centre stage with seven ties throughout the north of the county, writes Glen Sands.

Barton Vikings proved to be the giantkillers when the Division Three side travelled to Division One Broughton and won by 15 runs. George Short hit 70 with James Austin and Danny Harris adding 33 each in a total of 207 for 9 , Shaun Clark taking 4 for 45 and Dave " Geordie " Rudd 3 for 35 then Broughton replied with 191 thanks in the main to Jake Parker who hit 43 and Neil Simpson ( 33 ) as Tom Palin picked up 4 for 32 and Jack Waller 3 for 45 whilst Division Two side Hibaldstow defeated Appleby Frodingham of Division One , posting a total of 194 for 7 with Dale Coy hitting 70 and Jon Taylor 27 before Tom Taylor excelled with the ball , taking 5 for 37 as Frod were dismissed for 121. Grimsby Town hit the biggest score of the day when racking up 263 for 5 against Normanby Park , Steve Crossley making 78 and Joe Farmery 70 then Normanby were bowled out for 64 as Cox picked up 3 for 23.

Cup holders Alkborough made the journey to league new boys Bawtry , bowling them out for 66 with Andy Williamson picking up 6 for 35 then Liam Hebblewhite guided his team to 69 for 1 when making 34 not outand Scunthorpe Town won a low scoring affair at Division Two side Everton , scoring 89 with Jamie Brumby making 21 , Mike White taking an impressive 7 for 24 for the home side who then slipped to 55 all out , Dan Brighton top scoring with 21 as David Peacock took 6 for 34 to see his team through. There was a high scoring encounter at Messingham where Second Division Luddington set a tough target of 193 , Jamie Arrowsmith scoring an impressive 77 and Rick Green 27 , Danny Rands taking 3 for 22 for Neil Birkitt's side and he also hit 37 , adding to the 63 from Matt Lawson as Messingham came within nine of victory , Darren Clark picking up 3 for 34 and Doug Fann 2 for 39 as the Isle side squeezed into the Quarter Finals. Caistor Cougars won the all Division Two clash with Cleethorpes who were bowled out for 98 Ben Barrick taking 4 wickets whilst Oliver Barrick and Kieran Brooker shared the other six then Lane Tutty hit an undefeated 53 and Harry Boulton 34 to send the Cougars into the next round. Outcasts were given a bye following outh Kelsey's withdrawal from the league.

RESULT : HIBALDSTOW win by 73 runs

May 24th will see the Amazing Smile NLL Division Cups begin with Alkborough entertaining Haxey and Scunthorpe Town meeting neighbours Appleby Frodingham at Heslam Park in Division One.

Hibaldstow welcome Cleethorpes in Division Two while Caistor Cougars head out for a rare visit to Luddington on the Isle of Axholme. Outcasts are also at home in Central Axholme when they play hosts to Everton in a game that will be played for league points as well as progression to the Cup Semi Finals

There is just one game in Division Three as Barton Vikings make the trip to Normanby Park , Bawtry having already qualified for the Semi Finals when South Kelsey withdrew from the competition and the Messingham  v  Upton cum Kexby tie will be played on June 29th as a double header as Messingham have a Lincs League Cup fixture at Cleethorpes on May 25th
