OUTCASTS @ BRACEBRIDGE HEATH 2nds - LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

MATCH REPORT BY GLEN SANDS

It was a real " on off " day on May 10th when Outcasts travelled to Lincoln to take on Bracebridge Heath 2nds in their Lincs League Division One fixture but with cooperation from both teams and the umpires they managed to play enough of the match for both sides to pick up twelve points.
Bracebridge were invited to bat first and made a decent start before Oliver Hoare bowled Ryan Watson with a quick delivery with the total on 42 but even by then the players had been off for rain a couple of times. To their credit umpires Robyn Wilkinson and Mark Evans kept the game going and the home side appeared to be set for a big total as Natahn Poundall and Carl Stubbs took the score to three figures , then the latter drove a catch to Russell Fletcher off the bowling of brother Graeme having scored 21. Tom Sharpe then trapped Carl Watson LBW to make it 111 for 3 and from that moment on Scott Buttrick took centre stage with his slow bowling, removing Holden and Warman , caught by Graeme Fletcher and Josh Bramhill who took a spectacular diving effort. Poundall had proven to be the main man for Bracebridge but just when he looked set for a ton he was superbly stumped by Richard Wroot off Buttrick for 82 with the total on 170. Buttrick finished the innings with 6 for 43 and Matthew Teal picked up Matthew Whitehouse for 21 as they closed on 198 all out , the innings taking more than three and a half hours because of the numerous rain breaks that were required.
Outcasts reply saw Eastoft pair Josh Bramhill and Oliver Coulman put on 35 before the former was bowled by Aussie fast bowler Brett McGlade for 17 then Coulman was caught by Whitehouse , again off McGlade having scored 28. Scott Buttrick was next to go , adjudged to have feathered a catch down leg side to the agile Carl Stubbs but John Stokoe and James Glew then steadied the ship with a dogged partnership. Glew was beginning to look comfortable before he lofted a catch to Holden off Paul Cook for 17 then century maker Oliver Hoare joined Stokoe , making eleven then perishing to a very sharpe slip catch by fellow countryman McGlade off Alex Moor. The weather had had such an effect on the match that when 6 30 arrived the umpires called for a " timed " completion to the fixture , meaning the home side had twenty overs in which to take the remaining wickets with Outcasts needing to either push on for a win or see off the Bracebridge attack for a draw. Russell Fletcher was bowled by McGlade for four and skipper Richard Wroot by opposite captain Cook for nine but Stokoe was proving to be unmovable and along with Matthew Teal he saw his side through to a share of the points , ending the innings on 44 not out.
So the journey to Lincoln proved to be worth it in the end as both sides collected seven extra points than would have been on offer had the game been postponed at 1 30. It means Outcasts are up to third in the table and can consider themselves satisfied at having competeed well against one of the major contenders in the Division. Next up for the Isle side are Holton le Clay at Hirst Priory whilst the second eleven head to Market Rasen after their game against Normanby Park was one of a host of games that fell victim to the weather.
