SNOWY HAS PLENTY TO SMILE ABOUT WITH AMAZING KNOCK OF 192

BY GLEN SANDS
The newly sponsored Amazing Smile North Lindsey Cricket League got underway on May 5th and one man in particular will be wearing one of the largest smiles imaginable as Scunthorpe Town's Ian Snowden hit a spectacular 192 not out in his teams huge total of 309 for 4 against Caistor Cougars.
His achievement came in the First Division game played at Heslam Park with team mate Matt Pashley scoring 72 in an incredible 40 overs but to their credit the Cougars batted well in reply before being bowled out for 179 , 15 year old Jake Thompson hitting 46 in fine style with another youngster , George Jackson , picking up 4 for 44 for Scunthorpe. With the new sponsors Amazing Smile looking to encourage teams to bring on their youngsters it was nice to see that Appleby Frodingham fielded one of their youngest ever sides when travelling to play Broughton , the eldest in their team being Kieran Watson at 19 and the youngest being 14 year old Alex Grimes and they came away with an excellent victory having bowled Broughton out for 104 thanks chiefly to Chris Groenink who took 3 for 12 before then making 23 not out along with team mate Jack Harrison who finished on 37 not out in a total of 105 for 3. Finally there was a thrilling finish to the game at Augusta Street between Grimsby Town and Hibaldstow that went right to the last over. Hibaldstow made 190 for 7 in their 40 overs , Mark Nicholson top scoring with 55 whilst Tom Taylor made 54 , Joe Baker taking 3 for 29 for Town who reached their target of 191 for the loss of eight wickets , Steve Crossley guiding them home with 39 not out whilst that man Baker also hit 32 to add to his bowling figures , but it was tough on Hibaldstow's Karl Nazareth who took an impressive 6 for 53 in a valient bowling display.
Next week will see a full list of fixtures across all three divisions as the Amazing Smile NLL getsinto full swing. In Division One Broughton will host Grimsby Town looking to get off the mark whilst Caistor Cougars entertain Appleby Frodingham and Hibaldstow take on the heavy scoring Scunthorpe Town team.  In Division Two Barton Acadamy Vikings open their Sunday season with a home game against Alkborough whilst newly promoted Luddington travel to Messingham for their first game since winning the Third Division title last summer and there is an Isle of Axholme derby at Hirst Priory where Outcasts will take on near neighbours Haxey in what promises to be a well contested match. Cleethorpes begin life in Division Three by welcoming Blyth CC to their Chichester Road home whilst the other two games take place in the Gainsborough area as Misterton take on new arrivals South Kelsey and Upton cum Kexby host old rivals Everton.
