There is a full quota of Division Three games as Cup giantkillers Blyth CC take on Upton cum Kexby at home while Misteron host near neightbours Everton in what promises to be a close encounter. Finally Cleethorpes entertain new team South Kelsey at Chichester Road , both teams looking to pick up a first league win of the season.

AMAZING SMILE NLL DIVISION TWO
Luddington are the early leaders in Division Two following their derby day victory at Haxey where Andy Lawson scored 31 and both Darren Clark and Rick Green made 22 in an all out total of 153 , Graham Skelton taking 4 for 47 and South African Josh Savage 3 for 28 for Haxey and for a while Skelton appeared set to win it for the home side with a quick fire 40 but Luddington fought back to win by 56 runs thanks chiefly to Matthew Mellers who took an impressive 6 for 33 including a hat trick with Graham Clark picking up 3 for 51. Alkborough skipper Paul Mitchell had an eventful game at Hirst Priory against Outcasts , going from zero to hero as he was out for a golden duck in Alkborough's total of 140 all out before winning the game for them with figures of 5 for 22 with his new brand of spin bowling !  Vaidik Kichen Raj top scored for Alkborough with 55 as Matthew Teal took 4 for 34 and he then top scored for the Isle side with 26 but it was not enough to see them home as they were bowled out for 114.
Finally, there was an incredible batting display by Shaun Dalton, of Messingham, who scored  172 against Barton Academy Vikings in a huge total of 322 for 7, Mark Greenwood also hitting 71, four of the wickets going to Lucas Waller who bowled valiantly throughout the innings for the Vikings who replied with 109 for 8 , Andy Genney making 29.

WEATHER WASHES OUT BROUGHTON EVENING LEAGUE'S SECOND WEEK

There was no cricket played in the Broughton Evening League on May 29th due to a combination of rain and an early cancellation that saw Luddington concede to Appleby Frodingham through lack of numbers, writes Glen Sands.
The Isle side were due to play at Brumby Hall against Appleby Frodingham but had to concede because after exhaustive attempts to find enough players secretary Glen Sands was left with no alternative but to advise their opponents that they were unable to raise a team , having only seven definites and no less than fifteen who were unable to play for one reason or another.
Ironically the game might well have been called off following the persistent rain that fell on Wednesday , and it was that rain that put paid to the other two scheduled games at Barton v Scunthorpe and at Broughton v Normanby Park.
The early decision by  Luddington to concede means Appleby Frodingham top the table with six points whi;e Scunthorpe Scorpions are two points back in second. All six clubs have now got off the mark having received a point from the postponed matches.

SNAITH & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

Pollington gained their first win of the season when they beat Sykehouse , who made 77 for 6 thanks chiefly to Edwards 26 , then Paul Freeman scored 22 and Paul Baker 20 as Pollington reached 79 for 7 to claim the points. Finally in Division Two Carlton Towers were awarded the points against Goole Firemen who once again were unable to raise a team. As was the case last week the League would urge someone from the club to contact the Snaith League committee to discuss their intentions for the rest of the season.

GRIMSBY TOWN KNOCKOUT OPENS ON MONDAY

PREVIEW BY ANN BOULTON

Monday sees the first match in the 2013 Grimsby Town Knock Out when Louth take on Nettleham at Augusta Street.
And spectators will have the opportunity to see Louth’s overseas player Azeem Ghumaan from Pakistan, currently the top batsman in the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League.
Ghumaan has already notched up more than 250 runs from his first six matches in the league, including one century and, with the support of knock out veterans such as Graham West and Jason Collinson, could put skipper Andy Carrington’s side on course for a high score.
Nettleham are captained by another familiar face, Russ Binnington, whose team is suffering mixed fortunes in the Lincolnshire County League Premier Division but last week saw an innings of 92 from Tom Dalton as the Lincoln side defeated high flyers Alford.  Dalton is also one of the division’s top wicket takers.
Old hands David Hutchinson and David Manby are likely members of Binnington’s squad which also includes a number of Nettleham’s up and coming youngsters.
The match begins at 6.15pm and entry is £2 (free for Grimsby Town members).  It will be umpired by Ian Wilkinson and Kevin Cook.
The knock out is once again sponsored overall by Great Coates Motors and Grimsby Van Centre.

BOURNE LIFT WINKWORTH CUP

READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB PREMIER LEAGUE

Bourne captain Peter Morgan receives the trophy from Martin Thompson of Winkworth.

Stuart Airey collects his Man of the Match award.

Bourne lifted the Winkworth Cup for the first time since the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League began in 2000, writes ANN BOULTON.
Pete Morgan’s team fought off the challenge of Skegness in the semi-final at Sleaford CC then overcame 2012 winners Bracebridge Heath in the final to earn a place in the ECB T20 area finals at York CC on August 11.
Stuart Airey scored half centuries in both games, partnering Carl Wilson (80) in the semi to take the score from 17 for three to 153 for four and finishing 73 not out as the score reached 191 for five.  Skegness were then bowled out for 147.
But it was Paul Cook who put in the performance of the day in the second semi, the Bracebridge Heath captain hitting a magnificent 138 to bat Louth out of the game.  Cook’s 100 came off just 50 balls and his side ended on 216 for seven before restricting Louth to 113 for seven.
In the final, Airey once again passed the 50 mark to help Bourne to 166 for four, an achievable target for Bracebridge despite losing their top order, including Cook, cheaply.  The former champions kept up with the run rate until Hymie Bentley was fifth man out, bowled for 31 with the score on 110 and from here Bracebridge could reach only 143 for eight at the close.  Airey was named Man of the Match.

READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB PREMIER LEAGUE

JUNE 1 MATCH PREVIEW BY ANN BOULTON

With the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League table wide open, leaders Grimsby face 2012 champions Haxey who will be hoping that this week’s return of their university students will change their fortunes.

Second placed Market Deeping are away to Sleaford who made a dramatic drop from second to sixth after last week’s heavy defeat at Woodhall Spa and will have to fight hard for every point against a rejuvenated Deeping side.
Louth, who have slipped to fifth, face one of the toughest games of the day, at home to fourth placed Woodhall Spa who are only six points behind the leaders, while newcomers Spalding will be looking for another giant-killing weekend when they entertain third placed Skegness.
And in a repeat of last Monday’s Winkworth Cup final, Bourne take on Bracebridge Heath at Abbey Lawn, the home side badly needing maximum points to lift them out of 10th place.

GRIMSBY FIGHT OUT HIGH SCORING DRAW WITH BRACEBRIDGE HEATH

READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP
BY ANN BOULTON

May 25
Good weather brought an eventful weekend in the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League where leaders Grimsby fought out a high scoring draw with former champions Bracebridge Heath – and bottom team Hartsholme celebrated their first victory of the season over high flying Louth.
Bracebridge reached 247 before the final wicket fell with four balls of the innings to go, Paul Cook hitting 73 and putting on 83 for the fifth wicket with Stuart Fraser-Cattanach (53).
In reply, Grimsby skipper Jim Morgan, with only 20 runs to his name all season survived an early chance to finally find his batting form with a century innings off 103 balls.
Harry Warwick hit 43 but Matt Carter claimed both batsmen’s wickets and went on to finish with five for 68 as the visitors’ 50 overs ended on 227 for eight.
However, Grimsby 13 points was enough to keep them at the top of the table, three ahead of Market Deeping who picked up 20 after bowling Bourne out for 148.  Deeping lost seven wickets reaching their target but David Gillett’s 68 saw them home.
Skegness moved to within one point of Deeping after a convincing win at Haxey where Paul Butler hit an unbeaten 53 of his side’s total of 215 for five before the home side were bowled out for 118.
Woodhall Spa’s eight wicket win over Sleaford put them fourth, just six points behind the leaders, Sam Evison’s unbeaten 55 seeing his side to victory while Louth slipped to sixth after becoming Hartsholme’s first victims.
The Lincoln side were left chasing 187 for seven after Laurence Scott hit 90 not out for Louth but Matthew Wooldridge made 51 as Hartsholme claimed a five wicket win to stay in touch with the teams above them.
League newcomers Spalding have quickly learned the value of playing for points - to the frustration of Lindum who were denied the maximum 20 despite recording the day’s highest total of 280 for six.
At St Giles Avenue, Lindum’s top three batsmen all hit form together, Karanjit Bansal with 78, Charlie Tomlinson (62) and Will Wright (54) helping push the total to 280 for six.  But an unbeaten 39 from Michael Kearns and dogged innings from Ian Smith and Ansar Hussain saw Spalding hang on to their last two wickets to finish 127 for eight and stay four points above Lindum in eighth place.

Results
Lindum 280-6 (Bansal 78, Tomlinson 62, Wright 54), Spalding 127-8;
Sleaford 132 (Burford 52no), Woodhall Spa 133-2 (Evison 55no);
Bourne 148, Market Deeping 149-7 (Gillett 68);
Bracebridge Heath 247 (P Cook 73, Fraser-Cattanach 53), Grimsby 227-8 (Morgan 100, M Carter 5-68);
Louth 187-7 (Scott 90no), Hartsholme 188-5 (Wooldridge 51);
Skegness 215-5 (Butler 53no), Haxey 118;

GREAT STAND FOR SKEGGY

HAXEY v LUDDINGTON - NORTH LINDSEY DIV 2

BY GLEN SANDS

Luddington are the early leaders in the Amazing Smile North Lindsey League Division Two after beating fellow Isle of Axholme side Haxey and it was unsung hero Matthew Mellers who took plaudits for this victory when taking 6 for 33 from 14 overs including a hat trick that set up a well desreved winfor the team from the North.
Gareth Parkin won the toss and chose to bat first against a youthful Haxey side with openers Darren Clark and Joe Woolhouse making a confident start before the latter was bowled by Andy Steeper for six with the total on 25. Geoff Smith joined Clark in the middle and they moved the score along to 39 when Clark was trapped infront of his stumps from a delivery by Cameron Farr that kept decidedly low , Clark having scored 22. He was replaced by his brother Graham who set off well only to run himself out when attempting a run which in truth was'nt really on and that left Ludd on 53 for 3. Haxey were bowling and fielding well but as ever Andy Lawson was not to be contained for long and his arrival at the crease saw the total rise quickly. Smith had eased himself to 14 and was looking to play an anchor role only to be bowled by the slow right armer Graham Skelton  then Haxey's South African Josh Savage took the prized wicket of Lawson , bowling him for 31 which left Ludd on 93 for 5. Skipper Gareth Parkin and Jamie Arrowsmith then took the total to 110 with some sensible batting then Parkin was adjudged to be LBW to Skelton for five which brought Danny Taylor to the crease. He and Arrowsmith added thirteen before the latter became another LBW victim , again to Skelton having scored 14. Rick Green added some valuable late runs as he crashed two mighty sixes whilst at the other end Taylor was given out LBW to Savage from another ball that kept low  and that was certainly the case for Steve Proctor who was bowled by a delivery that rolled along the deck to hit the base of the stumps.  Green had reached 22 when he became the fifth LBW victim of the innings leaving Ludd on 153 all out  , Graham Skelton finishing with 4 for 47 and Josh Savage 3 for 28 with their pace of the ball deliveries.
Skelton opened the Haxey innings along with Ethan Tonks and he made a blistering start with some unauthadox and inventive batting. Tonks was first to go , bowled by the accurate Matthew Mellers then the Clark brothers combined to take out Tom Smith for ten , Darren taking a tremendous diving catch in the deep off brother Graham's bowling. Skelton remained a threat but required someone to stay with him if Haxey were to succesfully chase down their target and sadly for him that was'nt happening. Joe Coggan edged a catch to wicket keeper Steve Proctor off Mellers who was bowling like a dream and the two of them repeated the trick to send Luke Allen back , leaving the score on 56 for 5. Danny Bullock was next to the crease but he lasted just one delivery , trapped LBW by the rampant Mellers who then produced an absolute jaffa to complete a fantastic hat trick , bowling Ross Simpson with a delivery that pitched middle and hit the top of off stump. After the celebrations had subsided it was back to the match and Graham Clark got in on the act when he trapped the dangerous Skelton infront of his stumps for an excellent 40 and he then took a stunning one handed return catch off Andrew Steeper who had made a quick fire nine runs. Mellers picked up a sixth wicket when Darren Clark caught number ten batsman Roberts with the total on 71 then came a backs to the wall tenth wicket stand between South African Savage and Cameron Farr who showed a classic straight bat for nigh on 30 deliveries. Skipper Parkin rang the changes , bringing on Darren Clark and Rick Green and it was Green who made the final break through when he trapped Farr LBW for five , leaving Haxey on 97 all out , some 56 runs short of the Luddington score.
In a quirk of fate the two sides meet again on June 2nd , this time at Luddington , when Haxey will look to avenge this defeat , while Luddington will hope to continue their terrific start to 2013 , as will the quiet man Matthew Mellers who was undoubtedly their man of the match in this game.

OWMBY BEAT OUTCASTS IN RARE DOUBLE-HEADER

BY GLEN SANDS

The Owmby v Outcasts game on Saturday, May 25th was played as a double header, not just as a George Marshall Trophy first round tie but also for division one points, as agreed by the Lincolnshire County Cricket League committee following issues with the Todmoor ground on which Owmby play their games.The ground looked a picture on the first really pleasant day of the 2013 season but sadly for Outcasts they once again showed a batting frailty that has dogged them in several matches going back to last season.
Owmby were invited to bat first by skipper Liam McAnaney , deputising for the injured Richard Wroot and his opposite number Raki Chander Nair set about the Outcasts attack with relish , racing to 32 in no time with an array of terrific shots. He was out for 32 just as he appeared set for a big innings , caught by Russell Fletcher off the bowling of Tom Sharpe who unfortunately was only able to bowl three overs due to a back problem. Sam Atkin and Kevin Bowring took Owmby's score to 64 before Graham Clark trapped the latter LBW for 18 which brought Dave Hill to the crease to join Atkin and the runs continued to flow. Clark picked up a second wicket when Atkin was well caught by a diving Matthew Teal at mid off , the Owmby man having scored 19 then Outcasts began to stem the flow as Clark and Liam McAnaney bowled good tight lines. Cieron Deegan had strode to the middle but could'nt find any fluency and he was next to go for ten when Graham Clark took a tremendous one handed catch off the bowling of Graeme Fletcher. Dave Hill was batting well and along with veteran wicketkeeper/ batsman Ed Chappell moved the total to 135 before Hill was caught by Graeme Fletcher off slow bowler Scott Buttrick just four short of what would have been a deserved half century. The same combination accounted for Chappell when he had made 11 then Matthew Teal bowled Dan Hill for 13 leaving Joe Atkin ( 8 not out ) and James Cooper ( one not out ) as the innings finished on 163 for 7. Graham Clark picked up figures of 2 for 33 and Buttrick 2 for 40 but special mention should also go to captain Liam McAnaney who's nine overs went for just 19.
For Outcasts to succeed in overhauling Owmby's score they needed someone to play the anchor role around whom the others would bat but as has often been the case that simply did'nt happen with several players getting a start only to then lose their wicket. Darren Clark was first to go , once again bowled by a leg stump yorker this time by James Cooper , a mode of dismissal hereally needs to work on and without a further run added Matthew Teal was out caught behind by ED Chappell off Dave Hill leaving Outcasts on 20 for 2.The two seniors of the side , Andy Lawson and Andy Torr took the total to 52 before Lawson was caught at deep mid off by Ciaron Deegan to give Hill a second wicket , having scored 20 then Torr guided the ball into the hands of home skipper Raki Chander Nair at slip off Deegan and the Isle side were stuttering at 69 for 4. Scott Buttrick and Peter Tait then steadied the ship but just as they looked set to make a counter attack Buttrick was out for twenty , caught and bowled by Sam Atkin. Russell Fletcher was next to join Tait who was by then Outcasts main hope of guiding them home and once again for a while it loked promising as they took the score to 91 , then Fletcher hit a catch to Neil Looker having made seven and the visitors were six down. Owmby were scenting victory with twin spin duo Sam Atkin and Ciaron Deegan tightening the screw. Number eight batsman Graham Clark was bowled by Deegan for just a single with the total on 107 then came the major blow when Deegan induced an across the line shot from Tait who was bowled for 30 leaving his team fifty runs short of their target. There was to be no sting in the tail as Dan and Dave Hill picked up the last wickets which meant a first win for Owmby and a 2nd round home tie against Haxey 2nds on June 22nd.
So it was a case of deja vue for Outcasts who once again failed to win a game in which they might have done better had someone stepped up to the plate but they will have to dust themselves off in time to take on league leaders Horncastle on Saturday which could just be the game they need to bounce back. As for Owmby they will hope this win will be a spring board for the rest of their season starting with a home fixture against Louth 2nds.
It was a poor day all round for Outcasts as their 2nd eleven crashed out of the Bob Welton Cup against Cleethorpes 3rds at Hirst Priory. Captain Jason Whiteley top scored with 24 and James Glew hit 21 as Outcasts registered a score of 129 for 8 but that was nowhere near enough as the Meggies cruised to 132 for 1 in only 26 overs , Mike Chamberlain hitting 57 and Lewis Markham 55 not out to earn them a 2nd Round match at Scothern 2nds on June 22nd.
