READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB PREMIER CRICKET LEAGUE JUNE 28 ROUND-UP BY ANN BOULTON

Damp weather made it a bowlers’ weekend in the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League – with the exception of the game at Sleaford where three players hit half centuries in a game that produced only seven wickets.
Leaders Bourne were skittled out for 131 by Lindum but Colin Cheer hit back with five wickets as the visitors were all out for only 66.
It was a similar story in the bottom of the table clash at Augusta Street, though this produced a much closer game as Grimsby’s 50 overs ended on 145-9.  Market Rasen reached 55 for two then 106 for three, at which point a first victory of the season looked a real possibility.
But the Grimsby bowlers stuck to their task and the final Rasen wicket fell on 132 as David Carr returned the day’s best bowling figures of seven for 29.
This moved Grimsby up to 10th place, 21 points above Rasen and 11 up on Billingborough who turned in a good bowling and fielding performance to restrict a strong Woodhall Spa side to 172 for five.
Nathan Mill struck with the score on five and Joe Braithwaite claimed the valuable wicket of Malinga Bandara to make it 35 for two.  Jonny Cheer hit 25 and Ben O’Brien 24 but the combined attack of slow bowlers Steve Scott and Angus Youles made batting hard work.
On 125 for five, Woodhall were looking at a total around 150 until Jack Hughes joined skipper Jack Luffman in a partnership that took the final score to 172 for five, Luffman making 44.
Connor Parsons then took two wickets and a run out made it 27 for three.  From here the Billingborough batsmen had little answer to the Woodhall bowling, only stand-in skipper Scott with 32 putting up much resistance.  The final wicket fell on 70, O’Brien taking four wickets and Bandara three in a victory that moved Woodhall up to fourth in the table.
At Spalding, Bracebridge Heath won with just four balls to spare, having made the top score of the day with 192 for nine despite losing their first two wickets for 14 runs. Brett Houston hit 36 but it was the fifth wicket partnership of 76 between Hymie Bentley (46) and Stuart Fraser-Cattanach (28) that set the visitors on the road to victory.
Spalding were 40 for three when Chris Dring joined Josh Newton to add 43 and Newton and Charlie Kearns added 35 for the sixth wicket but when Newton became Matt Bradley’s third victim, stumped on 44 with the score on 137 for eight, only 12 more runs were added, Bradley finishing with five for 24.
Bracebridge are now in second place, just one ahead of Market Deeping for whom Mehul Adatia took three wickets at Sleaford, including Tim McIntosh for 44.  Skipper Oliver Burford made an unbeaten 60 to take his side to 187 for five only to see Deeping race to 156 without loss thanks to Chris Jones and Jamie Morgan.
Morgan was run out for 86 but by the time Jones was bowled for 59, only 12 runs were needed for victory which came with 10 overs to spare.
Skegness made it two wins in succession to move away from the bottom three, as Louth were unable to defend a low total.  A run out and two victims for Tom Cuthbert reduced the visitors to 37 for three and the introduction of Umar Farooq (5-24) to the attack saw wickets continue to tumble, the final one falling on 101.
Skegness then suffered two early losses but an unbeaten 41 from skipper Norman Brackley saw the seasiders home by seven wickets.

Results
Bracebridge Heath 192-9, Spalding 149 (Bradley 5-24);

Woodhall Spa 172-5, Billingborough 70;
Louth 101 (Farooq 5-24), Skegness 102-3;
Sleaford 187-5 (Burford 60no), Market Deeping 188-2 (Jones 59, Morgan 86).

SUPER VETERAN ERNS HIMSELF FIVE WICKETS FOR CAISTOR IN LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE

Ernie Allison may be the wrong side of 60 but he's still taking wickets in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League.
Here he is bowling his off-spin for Caistor 3rds, on the way to taking an impressive 5-19 in the home game with East Halton at the weekend.
Caistor posted 209-6 and bowled out the visitors to Brigg Road for 50. Another "vet"  Terry McKitton took 4-27.
Ern used to be a batsman of renown. Look in old Lincolnshire League handbooks of long ago and you'll see him high up in the averages. And in a much higher league that div four. These days he's likely to come to the crease at 10 or 11, leaving it to the younger players in the team.
Our thanks to Wes Allison - another Caistor stalwart - for supplying this fine pic of Ern in action.

OUTCASTS BEAT CHERRY WILLINGHAM TO REACH QFs OF GEORGE MARSHALL TROPHY FOR FIRST TIME

BY GLEN SANDS

First Division Outcasts reached the Quarter Finals of the George Marshall Trophy for the first time in their history when causing something of an upset by beating Premier Division Cherry Willingham in a high scoring affair on June 21st.
Cherry won the toss and chose to bat first , setting off at a rate of knots despite losing Tim Shooter for 14 , bowled by skipper Liam McAnaney with the total on 17 then the highly impressive Will Carter and youngster Jack McGill added another quickfire 41 before Tom Sharpe bowled the latter for 19.Carter threatened to take the game away from the Isle side with some outstanding shots that saw him bring up his half century but just when they needed a wicket Carter drilled a catch straight back to Scott Buttrick and he was gone for 60 with the overall total on 124. Buttrick repeated the feat when Dan Laughton fell just three runs later and with Darren Clark joining his spin twin at the other end Cherry's run rate began to fall dramatically. Mark O'Halloran batted well for his 39 then played a poor shot to be bowled by Buttrick and Scott Coupland quickly followed for seven , caught by Tom Sharpe off Clark to reduce the home side to 146 for 6.Andy Johnson and Lee Coupland took the score to 174 onlt for the returning Mc|Ananey to then have the former caught by Josh Bramhill for 18 then came the first of two run outs that meant that Cherry failed to break the 200 mark , Darren Clark ending the innings with a direct hit when aiming at just one stump as it closed on 193 all out. Scott Buttrick ( 3 for 50 ) and Liam McAnaney ( 3 for 28 ) were the pick of the bowling for Outcasts although Darren Clark's 1 for 19 from nine overs was an exceptional performance for his first bowl of the season.
The Priorymen lost a couple of early wickets when they set about their reply , Buttrick being spectacularly caught at slip by Russ Binnington off Will Carter for five and Oliver Coulman bowled by Jim Gray for seven but Josh Bramhill and John Stokoe then put together a terrific partnership of 83 with some tremendous batting , Bramhill in particular growing in confidence with each boundary which saw him bring up a well deserved 51. Will Carter was brought back on and immediately brought his team back into contention when bowling Bramhill and he followed that by trapping Stokoe LBW for 37 to make it a nervy ew overs for the visitors. Darren Clark drilled a catch straight to Tim Shooter off Graham Priestley to further add to Outcasts woes but Richard Wroot and Oliver Hoare then steadied the ship , adding thirty before Hoare mirrored Clark's dismissal having hit a quickfire 16. A shock was still on the cards but they needed to keep calm as Cherry made run scoring somewhat tough but Wroot hit 23 valuable runs to move his team nearer the winning post but there was another twist as he was well caught by wicket keeper Coupland off Tim Shooter with another 24 still required. That brought Russell Fletcher and Tom Sharpe together with twelve overs remaining and they proceded to nudge and guide the ball around to see their team home to the uncharted territory of the Quarter Finals and another match up with a Premier Division side , namely Caistor Town on July 6th , Fletcher finishing on 12 not out and Sharpe on nine.
So the unbeaten run continued for Outcasts first eleven and they will look to stretch it furthe on June 28th when they play hosts to Horncastle in Division One whilst the second eleven , who are also unbeaten in Division Three head to South Kelsey hoping to maintain their place at the top of the table.

GRIMSBY TOWN GROUND WELCOMES ENGLAND CRICKETER OF THE YEAR

BY ANN BOULTON

Augusta Street plays host to the 2014 England Development Cricketer of the Year in the latest Grimsby Town Knock Out match on Monday, June 23.
Will Rhodes, who captained England’s U19 World Cup team, returns to his roots when he plays for Fenner against Cleethorpes.
Rhodes, who also plays for Yorkshire, won the Cricketer of the Year award at a ceremony at Lords where Ian Bell was named England Player of the Year.
A long-time fan of the Knock Out, a competition he first played in as a junior, he was keen to take his place once again in Fenner’s line-up if his Yorkshire commitments allowed.  He will be joined by brother Dominic, who is also a regular in the side.
The teams met in the same fixture last year when the brothers both fell victim to Cleethorpes’ overseas player Graeme Hume who also top scored with 74 runs.
This year, the Meggies will be introducing their latest signing from abroad, South African fast bowler Tumi Masakela.
Despite having their progress in the Yorkshire ECB Premier League curtailed by rained off games, Cleethorpes are fourth in the table.
Fenner, who play in the Premier Division of the York & District Senior League, have also suffered cancelled matches but are also currently in fourth place.
The match starts at 6.15pm and spectators are welcome.  Entry is £2 per person or free to Grimsby Town members and those who join on the night.

JUNE 21 READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB PREMIER LEAGUE CRICKET

BY ANN BOULTON

The Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League top of the table clash between Market Deeping and Bourne lived up to expectations, producing over 520 runs, a century and three half-centuries.
But it was Cross O’Cliff Court that produced the most exciting game of the day as the home side hung on for a one wicket victory.
Bourne’s Carl Wilson was the century-maker while Jamie Morgan hit 50 for Deeping off 30 balls – including 30 off one Jack Berry over made up of six fours (one off a no-ball) and a six.
The leaders ended with 274 for seven while Deeping reached 252 for nine at the close, giving Bourne a 12 point lead to the top of the table.
Bracebridge moved into third, two behind Deeping, after bowling Sleaford out for a meagre 115, Matt Carter adding four wickets to his ever-growing haul.  But Sleaford hit back and Paul Cook’s team found themselves on 84 for nine and staring defeat in the face.
Enter bowler Matt Bradley, who joined wicketkeeper Hymie Bentley in a dogged fightback that took their side to the slenderest of victories.
Bracebridge took over third place from Louth who suffered an unexpected defeat in a high scoring game at home to Spalding that went to the penultimate ball of the match.
Batting first, Louth set the team from the south a target of 228, losing nine wickets on the way.  John Medler and Amila Wethasinghe made half centuries but the visiting batsmen were on even better form as Warren Nel made 99.
Josh Newton then took over and was unbeaten on 85, taking his side to a welcome seven wicket win that kept them well above the bottom four in the table.
Skegness moved further away from the relegation zone with a six wicket win over bottom side Market Rasen who elected to bat on a good pitch but soon found themselves 33 for five.
The middle order restored some stability and Rasen’s final pair defied the bowlers for several overs before Brendan Young took the last wicket to finish with four for 38.
Skegness in turn found the going tough, losing a wicket in the second over and with slow bowlers Matt Rutherford and Tom Boryszczuk working in tandem, the flow of runs dwindled. By the 19th over, the seasiders were 63 for two and by the 30th had only reached 79 for four.
However, Young joined skipper Norman Brackley and this partnership saw their side to victory in the 39th over.
Skegness are now 22 points up on Billingborough who got off to a steady start at Lindum then collapsed to 136 all out.  Ben Morrison (25) and Nathan Mill put on 39 for the first wicket but the visitors were then reduced to 48 for five.
David Gollop and Steve Scott added 34 and from 97 for eight, Richard Wells (25no) and Aaron Pullum put on another 38 while for Lindum, Ryan Sneddon and Jon Miller each took three wickets.
Lindum also lost early wickets but from 51 for five Richard Bishop (55no) and Miller (29no) saw their side to victory.
Grimsby once again hung on to take extra points for a draw when they took on Woodhall Spa at Jubilee Park.  Jonny Cheer made the day’s top individual score of 130 not out and Malinga Bandara hit 61 as Woodhall claimed the top total of 278 for five.
But Grimsby’s youngsters were up for the challenge and despite Bandara’s six wicket haul, finished their innings on 153 for nine.

Results
Market Rasen 123, Skegness 124-6;
Sleaford 115, Bracebridge Heath 119-9;
Bourne 274-7 (Wilson 100, Bentley 73), Market Deeping 252-9 (Jones 57, Morgan 50);
