LUDDINGTON BEAT NORMANBY PARK IN BROUGHTON EVENING LEAGUE

BY GLEN SANDS

Luddington completed the double over Normanby Park to record their second win of the season but it was refreshing to see how Normanby continue to bring on their young guns in the Broughton Evening League with only two of their eleven players being older than seventeen.
Normanby batted first with Alex Czabniuk and Liam Snell , in his first senior game , opening the batting. Snell made three runs in attacking style before he was bowled by Alex Fletcher with the total on nine and only three further runs had been added when Matt Leigh was bowled by Alex's brother Graeme. Zach Meadows was brilliantly run out by a direct hit from Liam McAnaney when the total stood at fifteen then Czabniuk and senior player Andy McDaid added a dozen runs before the young opener was trapped LBW by the excellent Alex Fletcher for 13. Declan Dunning and his Dad then took the score past the half century but their progress was stopped when Alex Fletcher bowled Dec with his final delivery in his spell , the Normanby youngster having made 16. Ludd then introduced bowling debutant Matt " Flairs " Grimbleby to their attack and he struck almost immediately when McDaid was caught by another debut man John Stokoe , out for 13 with the overall score on 56 for 6. Jacob Render was next to go , bowled by the confident Grimbleby for four then the experienced Jason Whiteley came to the party as he picked up the wickets of Alan Dawson and Liam Hebblewhite , both bowled by the canny Luddington bowler. Jack Cowling ( 4 not out ) and Normanby senior debutant Aidrian Parrott ( one not out ) ensured the innings went to the very end which meant the home side had closed on 76 for 9 , Alex Fletcher taking the bowling plaudits with 3 for 22 along with Flairs Grimbleby ( 2 for * ) and Jason Whiteley ( 2 for 14 ) also playing their part.
Normanby made a terrific start to their bowling campaign when Jacob Render produced a beauty to bowl Oliver Coulman when the visitors had made just three but Jamie Arrowsmith joined John Stokoe in the middle and with a great degree of sensible batting they proceeded to build the Luddington reply. Young Parrott bowled two decent overs , his first in senior cricket then Normanby went for the spin option when Alan Dawson was brought on to bowl and he made a breakthrough when he bowled Arrowsmith for 19 excellently gathered runs. Birthday boy Russell Fletcher then headed for the crease and as with Arrowsmith he complemented opener Stokoe who was the glue by which Ludd were building their run chase together. Liam Hebblewhite was somewhat unlucky not to pick up a wicket in his spell of three overs but Ludd's two experienced batsmen were finding the gaps and punishing anything loose and they eventually accelerated the score past Normanby's target with just short of two overs to spare , Stokoe making 34 not out and Fletcher 15.
So it was a good win for Andy Lawson's Luddington side with impressive performances from all their bowlers and great cotributions from Stokoe , Arrowsmith and Russell Fletcher  but it is'nt doom and gloom for Normanby who have a very promising young side and a youth policy second to none which is bound to reap rewards the more experience they gain. Hats off to the backroom staff of David Wenban , Andy McDaid and Paul Cowling for their hard work and effort to put Normanby Park back on the Lincolnshire cricketing map.
Special mention too should go to umpires Ralph Gray and Mick Walker who were their usual outstanding selves in what was an enjoyable and sporting played encounter.
