GRIMSBY TOWN KNOCKOUT SEMI-FINAL REPORT BY ANN BOULTON

A devastating four over spell from Louth skipper Andy Carrington put paid to Cleethorpes’ hopes of a place in the final of the Grimsby Town Knock Out.
Carrington took four wickets for just 15 runs off his 32 balls after Alex Osmond had got the Meggies off to a good start with some big hitting in the opening over from Stewart West.
Osmond departed in the second over, bowled Carrington for 14 but it was the fourth over that turned the game in Louth’s direction, as first Indy Hayre went, caught by Arran Brindle, then Rory Osmond was trapped lbw off Carrington’s next ball.
This left Cleethorpes 37 for three after four overs and when Carrington took his fourth wicket, it was 44 for four.
However, Graeme Hume was still at the crease and he and Paul Sunley stopped the slide with a partnership of 27 which was ended by an excellent catch by Matt Hamilton off Jake Sanders to dismiss Sunley.
Another stand began to build between Ian Mansfield and Hume, which added a further 23 before guest Sri Lankan player Amila Wetasingha bowled Mansifled to make it 94 for six.
Hume was finally dismissed by a good low caught and bowled by Sanders for 44 which came off 50 balls and included two sixes and four fours and gave the 18 year old bowler figures of two for 27 off his four overs.
And it was left to Wetasingha to finish off the tail in the final over and claim three for 21.
Stewart West and Laurence Scott came out full of intent and at the end of the first over, bowled by Hume, Louth had 21 on the board, 20 of them scored by West.   The opener’s swashbuckling lasted until the third over when he was caught by Ian Mansfield off Alex Osmond for 28 which he hit off 15 balls with a six and four fours.
A steady accumulation of runs followed as Brindle joined Scott and after four overs, Louth were 50 for one.
A combination of fours and quick singles saw the score mount to 90 before Scott was run out for 28 and Cleethorpes had one more success when Wetasingha was caught behind by John Mansfield off Jack Keast.
But by then just two runs were needed for victory and Brindle finished unbeaten on 29 as Louth claimed their place in the final with more than two overs to spare.
The game was sponsored by Peter Beavis Fencing of Cleethorpes and Carrington was named Man of the Match for his bowling performance.
Louth will now play Lincolnshire Cavaliers in next week’s final on Monday, which begins at 6.15pm.
