LINCS ECB PREMIER ROUND-UP - GAMES PLAYED ON JULY 13

READERS LINCOLNSHIRE ECB PREMIER LEAGUE

July 13th - BY ANN BOULTON

Woodhall Spa extended their lead at the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League, picking up 20 points at Haxey while challengers Sleaford were held to a draw at Spalding.
The leaders bowled their opponents out for 143 then romped home by 10 wickets thanks to Jonny Cheer’s 74 off 70 balls and 64 from Sam Evison.
Sleaford hit the highest total of the day, reaching 316 for four, Tim McIntosh making an unbeaten 162 and Tom Shorthouse contributing 61.
But Spalding were also on good batting form, ending their innings on 229 for five to take seven points from the game, Warren Nel unbeaten on 115.
Bracebridge Heath and Market Deeping changed places after their match at Cross O’Cliff Court which saw Brett Houston put in a man of the match performance with 54 of Bracebridge’s total of 245.  Houston then took five for 36 as Deeping were all out for 103, a win that moved the home side up to third.
After two victories in the last two weeks, Hartsholme suffered an eight wicket defeat at the hands of Skegness who bowled their visitors out for 107 and went on to win by eight wickets.  This leaves Hartsholme 20 behind Haxey and both are now well adrift of Spalding and Bourne, the teams just above them.
Spalding are 25 ahead of Haxey while Bourne’s win over Louth at Abbey Lawn put them up to ninth, just eight behind their opponents.
Peter Morgan made 91 and Conrad Louth 65, these two sharing a partnership of 133. as Bourne ended their 50 overs on 269 for seven.  The visitors then reached 172 for four before collapsing to 195 all out.
But the closest game of the day came in mid-table as Grimsby entertained Lindum who won the toss and elected to bat but were quickly reduced to 38 for three by Matthew Cocks.  The middle order dug in, Tom Lindsay hitting 51 and at the end of the innings, the score had reached 227 for nine, Saikat Sarkar unbeaten on 45.
Grimsby got off to a much better start, Ross Carnelley and Jim Morgan putting on 44 for the first wicket and when Carnelley was bowled by Lindsay for 49, the home side were 140 for three.
Steve Crossley hit 54 to help Grimsby to 197 for five then a run out and the dismissal of Harry Clewett for 31 left Grimsby needing 13 runs with three wickets still standing.
However, a devasting spell from Stuart Turner saw all these wickets fall for just seven runs to give Lindum a six run victory that moved them up to sixth in the table.
