SNAITH EVENING LEAGUE SHIELD 1ST ROUND

BY GLEN SANDS

It was the first round of both the Snaith League Shield and the Arthur Brant Trophy on June 3rd with the current top two in Division One clashing at Goole Town who were victorious against Fishlake who made 93 for 8 only for Town to overhaul that target for the loss of five wickets which means they will now travel to Burn in the Semi Final after they beat Hensall by seven wickets in a high scoring affair. Craig Mainds hit 35 and Whaley 76 as Hensall made 165 for 5 but Jamie Bungle replied with 75 and Elliott 39 to guide Burn to a six wicket win. It was close at Hirst Priory where in form Josh Bramhill scored a majestic 63 for Outcasts , added too by Mark Donahue ( 24 ) ans Spud Tait ( 22 ) to set a target of 128 for 7 but Airmyn fell 10 runs short despite the best efforts of Phil Sparkes who made 57 not out and that earned the Isle of Axholme side a Semi Final at home to Hirst Courtney on Monday June 17th following their seven wicket win over Askern Welfare who hit 144 for 7 with 52 from Gillies only for Jake Wild with 50 and Phil Alford with 29 to help Hirst through.

ARTHUR BRANT TROPHY  1ST ROUND
Carlton Towers gained an excellent win over Sykehouse who batted first and scored 121 for 3 , Phil Sanders hitting 39 and Townsend 34 not out only for Scott Woofenden to blaze an impressive 82 to guide his team home by seven wickets. They will meet Pollington in the Semis at home on June 17th after Pollington won at Drax , setting a target of 137 for 4 thanks chiefly to Slater who made 63 not out and the home side managed 96 for 9 in reply , Thomas top scoring with 35 as Austrum picked up 3 for 20. The other Semi Final , on the same date , will see Thorne Colliery take on Eggborough after they beat Howden by 69 runs. Ash Langdale scored 75 not out for Thorne in their total of 115 for 7 then Sam Appleby ripped through the Howden batting when taking 5 for 12 including a hat trick. Eggborough were awarded the game against Goole Firemen who yet again failed to field a side and once again failed to inform Eggborough they were not travelling !! The League committee will make a decision as to what is to be done about this continued breach of rules and inform member clubs once dealt with.
