I paid only my second ever visit to Upton-Cum-Kexby Cricket Club on Sunday for the North Lindsey League division three game with Isleonians. It's a lovely setting with a nice bunch of people and excellent teas. The sun beat down and all was well with the cricketing world. You have to go through the villages and minor roads to get from my neck of the woods to this delighful village venue. Coming back I took in the leafy lanes of Willoughton and Blyborough and passed Kirton Lindsey's old ground on Redbourne Mere.
In the ranks of the Isle side - currently playing all their games away from home - were veteran Mike Newton, who played for many clubs in the Scunthorpe area; Mark Metcalfe, the former Haxey all-rounder; and Rick Green Jnr, who sweated blood for his team. Literally!
