12 MEN FIELDED FOR 11 OVERS

By Glen Sands

Bad weather and an honest mistake dominated matters in the Snaith Evening League which saw the First Division title race hot up whilst in Division Three Howden maintained their unbeaten campaign.

DIVISION ONE
Leaders Askern Welfare were thwarted by rain which prevented their scheduled game with Luddington from taking place which meant that Goole Town were able to close the gap at the top to just one point as Drax Village conceded their fixture on the Wednesday evening , the Villagers currently experiencing difficulties in putting a team together. The one game that was played saw Fishlake beat Sykehouse by 19 runs , posting a total of 120 all out thanks to David Johnson who hit 44 , Jim Davies taking 3 for 23 and Stuart Bellwood 3 for 27 before Sykehouse were bowled out for 101 with Chris Marshall contributing 39.

In the battle of the top two teams in Division Two Hirst Courtney triumphed over Airmyn by 16 runs , scoring 141 for 2 then reducing Airmyn to 125 but it was the match between Burn and Pollington that produced the days strangest occurance. Burn batted first , making 155 for 7 then set about defending their total only to discover after eleven overs that they had 12 players on the field. They immediately rectified the situation when their skipper sportingly left the field but Pollington were bowled out for 98 and a decision on who actually gains the points will be taken by the league committee once an official review is requested by Pollington !
