South Kelsey entertained Shipston-on-Stour Cricket Club yesterday in an attempt to enter the last 16 of the competition, the final of which is at Lord's. Conditions where ideal at picturesque Lysaght's ground, Holton-le-Moor, with the temperature hovering around the 30 degrees mark.
Kelsey who had several first team players unavailable for various reasons won the toss and invited Shipston to bat. With an opening stand of 101 with M Corby 44 and J Morris 64 Kelsey bowlers toiled away. Marcus Meadows came out with best figures for Kelsey of 4 -33 (including 3 in one over.) Connor Hawkins achieving 2-22. After 40 overs Shipston total was 248-8.
Kelsey lost early wickets but the young side commendably battled away,Connor Hawkins top scoring with 51 and with good contributions from Phil Pearson, Andy Stockdale and Kumud. Kelsey's final score was 174 all out.
The game was played in excellent spirit and both teams enjoyed a post match BBQ and shared cricketing experiences before the visitors left on their coach for a three hour trek to the Cotswolds.
The game was well umpired by Steve Massingham and Tom Fox, both from Metheringham, near Lincoln.
