Broughton CC skipper
Just thought I'd bring a few things to your attention from last week's game at Scothern (Lincs League div one).
Firstly..
Ian McGowan, left-handed bat, dispatching Pete Taylor for 6 over the trees and landing it into a empty, very large farmer's trailer - Martin Wilson having to climb in and retrieve it with the bunk-up hand of myself. Can't say I've every seen that before. Just pleased it wasn't full of pig muck because the ball was still quite new!
Secondly...
Sean Clixby taking the last two wickets of the innings against Hykeham on the 28th May and just reminding us that it was a hat-trick ball this week against Scothern when I threw him it, 1st change. Running in for his 1st ball he found the edge and was taken in gully. Does it still count as a hat-trick?
Lastly...
My good self dispatching Scothern's slow left-armer Richard Johnson towards the mid on region (cow, maybe) for six and with the ball sailing towards the crowd and one female spectator and her dog, Paul Reed got of his chair - chocolate bar in hand still - moved 10 yards across and took it one-handed, just before impact, knocking her to the ground briefly. Dog was fine, too! It turns out it was the bowler's Mrs and he rewarded Reedy with a swift one in The Local after the game. Maybe for saving her life! Who knows, eh?
NF adds: Matt is keen to know whether a hat-trick can be spread from one game to the next. Please post your comments here, now.

So long as he didn't play another game in between so it was the next ball he bowled after he took the two wickets, I would have thought the hat trick stood.
ReplyDeleteIt does not count. They cannot be carried into the next match. If it was a 2 innings match however it could be completed accross the innings as long as obviously achived with 3 consecutive balls.
ReplyDeletePete never told me about the 6. He only ever recounts the missed catches and the dodgey umpires decisions!
