I umpired the County U14 match between Lincolnshire and Cheshire on Sunday at Heslam Park. Prompted by an earlier comment posted on Lincs Cricket Latest, which I have now removed, I'd just like to say that the strip provided by Scunthorpe Town CC at Heslam Park produced 230-plus runs from Cheshire, one boy scoring a ton and another reaching the 90s.
One delivery during the 90-over contest shot along the ground - admittedly it did bowl the batsmen who was unlucky enough to get it. But otherwise the strip was good for batting. There was also something in it for the bowlers, particularly spinners.
Lincs didn't bat well and just topped the 100 mark.
Those who have played or spectated at Heslam Park this season will have been able to form their own opinion about the square and outfield. I'm just telling you what I observed from close quarters on Sunday.
PS: It's very rare we remove comments from Lincs Cricket Latest. We don't mind people expressing strong opinions, whether we agree with them or not. But we have to draw the line at bad language, even if disguised with the odd missing letter.
Fair comment is fine with us.
