WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
By Glen Sands
Snaith & District League Division One
Fishlake were crowned Champions of the Fisrt Division after Drax Village were unable to field a team for the third time in the league this season , their inability to send a team to Fishlake resulting in the home side collecting the win they required to finish ahead of Luddington who had a nightmare in fielding a team themselves as harvest , holiday and even a car breakdown on the way to the game saw their ten men well beaten at Sykehouse for whom Phil Sanders hit 80 in a total of 156 for 2 , Gary Strephen hitting 29 himself , then the Isle side were reduced to 74 all out as Dave Beavers picked up 3 for 15. Goole Town beat Burn in the one other First Division game scoring an exceptional 212 for 2 including an unbeaten ton from a curiously un named Town opener before Burn were held to 105 for 5 , ensuring that their one year stay in Division One ended in a defeat despite some close matches.
Snaith & District League Division Two
Hensall played their outstanding match with Goole Firemen on Tuesday July 27th , and their mnarrow 5 runs victory meant that they climbed into top spot , a place they cemented on Thursday when they gained another three points haul at Howden who made 80 for 7 when batting first and gave Hensall a tough fight before they reached 81 for 7 , Andy Sleight taking 3 for 5 for Howden. Hirst Courtney refuse to lie down in the hunt for the title and their 8 wicket win against Carlton Towers means that their meeting at Hensall on August 5th will now be for the Championship. Towers made 98 for 7 with 20 from Clayton , Craig Lawson picking up 4 for 15 for Hirst who then saw Howard hit 41 and Stones 39 on their way to 101 for 2 and finally Goole Firemen gained an excellent 25 runs win at Sturgethorpe who bowled the Firemen out for 89 , D West top scoring with 35 as Fred Drury took 3 for 15 then West starred with the ball , taking 3 for 19 as Sturgethorpe were bowled out for 64.
Snaith & District League Division Three
Things are very close now at the top of League Division Three with no less than three of the five teams level on 19 points. Eggborough finished their campaign with a win over Pollington which moved them onto 19 points but Airmyn, who were the third side at the top , suffered a surprise defeat at Drax Village 2nds. Airmyn posted a total of 158 for 7 , W Smith top scoring on 33 but Drax replied with 160 for 6 , Nicholson hitting 35 and Lawson 29 to guide the Village 2nd string to a fourth win of the season.

HUGE WIN FOR MEGGIES
Callum Robinson on his way to 33 at Haxey on Sunday.
REPORT AND PICTURES FROM GRAHAM HACKNEY
Cleethorpes 1st X1 completed a massive 167-run win Sheffield United at Chichester Road in the Yorkshire ECB Premier league last Saturday. They were surprisingly asked to bat first against a young Sheffield attack that have struggled so far this season and sit two places below Cleethorpes second from bottom. Eddie Carlton and Bill Kirby got Cleethorpes off to a bright start before Carlton departed for 18. For once Cleethorpes were not over reliant on Kiwi professional Peter Fulton who went for 11 to leave Meggies 39-2. Kirby and Yaniv Judah (20) added a patient 68 for the third wicket before Kirby, having passed his fifth half-century of the season was fourth man out for 73 having added a further 72 with the resurgent Alex Osmond. Osmond and stand-in skipper Charlie Tomlinson then proceeded to blitz the Sheffield attack as both went to quick fifties. Osmond’s 56 came in even time and included 7 boundaries while Tomlinson’s first half century of the season took just 32 balls and included three sixes and three fours. With James Windeatt (28 not out in 16 balls) adding a fitting finale to the innings, Cleethorpes closed out on 285-6 in their 55 overs. Sheffield were never in the hunt in their reply as Tomlinson opted to open with Osmond’s leg spin to compliment Andy Ellis’ seamers. They soon had Sheffield in real trouble and were bowled out for just 118 in 32.1 overs. Ellis, backed up by some good fielding, helped himself to his fourth five-wicket haul of the campaign to finish with 5/56 in 15 overs. Osmond was unfortunate to only pick up 4/35 in 16 overs as he continually bamboozalled the Sheffield batsmen. Jack Harrison nipped in with the final wicket to complete a comprehensive win that sees Cleethorpes move up a place in the league with a number of winnable games coming up.
Cleethorpes 2nds' descent down the Premier league continues after they lost by five wickets at a strong Appleby-Frodingham 2nds on Sunday. Frodingham, fielding a team with a great deal of first team experience, skittled Paul Sunley’s side out for 162 in the 44th over. Rob Griffin top scored with 35 with Sunley (28), Gary Cowlam (25no) and Nathan Judah (19) the main contributors. Despite Judah bowling a sparkling opening spell that brought three wickets, Frodingham’s sixth wicket pair added an unbeaten 77 to see their side home in the 34th over. Judah finished with figures of 3/34 in eight hostile overs with Indy Hayre (1/41 in 8 overs) and Rob Brice (1/15 in 3 overs) the other wicket-takers.
Cleethorpes 3rd X1 continue to struggle in the relegation places in the First Division. Saturday saw them go down to a heavy nine wicket defeat at Scothern after posting just 87 in 27.3 overs after batting first. Scothern took just 19.3 overs to knock off their target for the loss of only one wicket. Callum Robinson (20) and Nathan Judah (15) had been the only men to reach double figures in a poor batting display by Paul Hewstone’s side. Lewis Markham picked up the solitary Scothren wicket to fall with 1/20 in 6.3 overs in a bad day at the office for the thirds.
The following day they redeemed themselves with a fine three-wicket win at Haxey 2nds to the holders a place in the Bob Welton Cup final in August. An excellent bowling display saw them restrict Haxey to 154-9 in their 45 overs. Mike Shelton was the pick of the bowlers with a brilliant opening burst of 2/23 in his nine over spell. Fred Lumby also picked up superb figures of 3/26 in nine while Paul Ridley’s 2/21 in nine kept the middle order in check. Lewis Markham (1/29 in 9) and Matty Owen (1/43 in 9) were Cleethorpes other wicket takers. They made hard work of reaching their target though with Skipper Paul Hewstone (37) playing a typical dogged innings after Callum Robinson’s 33 had got Cleethorpes off to a flying start. Mike Shelton (13no) and Fred Lumby (14) ensured Cleethorpes made it home with some four overs to spare.
Another poor batting performance saw Kris Richardson’s 4th X1 slip to a nine wicket defeat to Market Rasen in the Second Division at the Stamford Club last Saturday. Only John Mansfield with a battling 33, Abdul Jamli (19) and Riann Swanepoel (17) ensured Cleethorpes edged up to their final total of just 93 in 33 overs. Rasen wasted little time in reaching their target taking just 15 overs. Jamli being the only successful bowlers as they face up to the real possibility of relegation to the third division.
Eddie Carlton led Cleethorpes' North Lindsey X1 to a 36-run home victory over Gainsborough side Marshalls on Sunday. The NLL X1 remain top of the first division after posting 181 all out in their 40. Carlton led the way with 42 at the top of the order with Matt Shelton (37), Harry Clewett (23) Alex Osmond (20) and Nathan Would (20) all chipping in for Meggies against some brilliant spin from Nadeem Ahmed from Marshalls. A great opening burst of 4/23 in six overs from John Mansfield immediately had Marshalls on the back foot as they slipped to 145 all out in 26 overs. Clewett picked up 3/31 in five overs while Adam Osmond, Nathan Would and Carlton also added a wicket apiece.
This weekend, Cleethorpes 1st X1 face a tough trip to second in the table Barnsley on Saturday. Cleethorpes 2nd X1 entertain Caistor in the Lincs League premier division at Chichester Road (1pm start) while the 3rd X1 have a must-win game at near-neighbours Holton le Clay. Cleethorpes 4ths are without a fixture this week.
Sunday’s only fixture sees the Academy X1 take on Grimoldby at Chichester Road (2pm start).
This ball from Alex Osmond appears to have passed right through the stumps!

OUTCASTS BACK ON TRACK
By Glen Sands
Having lost their previous three matches Outcasts went into their game at Louth looking for an improvement and that was just what they got from the same eleven players that had suffered a hefty defeat only a week earlier against Hykeham.
Skipper Mark Coulman won the toss and chose to insert the opposition , a decision that appeared well made after just one over when Jason Whiteley bowled Louth captain Lee Freeman round his legs with the total on two. Laurence Scott and Dean Jacklin took the total to 47 before Jacklin was bowled by Liam McAnaney having scored 13 , but that brought the impressive Zeehan Ahmed to the crease and along with Scott they took the score past three figures. Just when they appeared set to take the game away from the Isle side Scott edged a catch to Mark Coulman off Andy Torr after he had brought up an excellent half century ( 59 ) and Torr's introduction , coupled with Jason Whiteley and latterly McAananey saw the scoring rate stall. ber five batsman Zaid Saddiqui joined Ahmed at the crease and they added 52 runs before Ahmed was run out having reached a very well constructed 54 and just one further run had been added when Dale Chambers was caught by Oliver Coulman off McAnaney without troubling the scorers himself. Siddiqui was trapped LBW by Whiteley for 27 with the total on 173 and McAnaney then picked up his third wicket when Mike Searle was caught by wicket keeper Coulman for eight. A late blast from John Medler saw Louth squeeze to a full five batting points as they ended their 45 overs on 201 for 7 and both teams were relatively happy with their first innings performances.
Sadly for Louth the same could not be said of their bowling performance as Outcasts overhauled their target with over seven overs to spare. Oliver Coulman and Richard Wroot put together an opening stand of 83 with 16 year old Coulman in particular showing terrific form. He reached an exceptional half century with a barrage of tremendous boundaries but just when he looked set to go further he was caught by Lee Freeman off Nathan Russell for 53 , miscuing a delivery that in truth could easily have been called a no ball , then as is often nthe case Wroot followed quickly , caught by wicket keeper Mike Searle off Jon Dixon for 19 with the total at 84. Mark Coulman and Andy Torr rebuilt the Outcasts innings when taking the score up to 130 before Torr was caught behind off Lee Freeman for eight and Russell Fletcher also made eight only to be run out by a splendid direct hit from Nathan Russell with the overall total standing at 163. Skipper Coulman was batting superbly and along with number six batsman Darren Clark they took the score to within six of victory with some outstanding shots , Coulman in particular proving to be in exceptional form as he raced to 70. Unfortunatley for him he missed out on a " red inker " when he was caught in the deep by Jon Dixon off Zain Siddiqui and despite losing another wicket when Peter Tait was stumped by Searle , again off Siddiqui , the Isle side cruised to 203 for 6 and in doing so collected a valuable 18 points lifting them up into the top four of the Division One table.
Outcasts 2nds produced their best cricket of the season when picking up a tremendous victory over high flying Grimsby Town 2nds , this being their first league win of the season. Anthony Fitzgerald top scored with 43 with David Hobson just one run behind him as Outcasts set a target of 165 for the Grimsby side , Ian Fletcher blasting a late 35 to give his side a total to defend and that is just what they did as Simon Lewis picked up four wickets and Fitzgerald three when bowling their opponents out for 155.
Both sides will go into the weekend in good form then, the firsts entertaining Scothern at Hirsts Priory whilst the seconds travel to Caistor Town 2nds looking to continue with the winning formula
SPEAK AS YOU FIND
I umpired the County U14 match between Lincolnshire and Cheshire on Sunday at Heslam Park. Prompted by an earlier comment posted on Lincs Cricket Latest, which I have now removed, I'd just like to say that the strip provided by Scunthorpe Town CC at Heslam Park produced 230-plus runs from Cheshire, one boy scoring a ton and another reaching the 90s.
One delivery during the 90-over contest shot along the ground - admittedly it did bowl the batsmen who was unlucky enough to get it. But otherwise the strip was good for batting. There was also something in it for the bowlers, particularly spinners.
Lincs didn't bat well and just topped the 100 mark.
Those who have played or spectated at Heslam Park this season will have been able to form their own opinion about the square and outfield. I'm just telling you what I observed from close quarters on Sunday.
PS: It's very rare we remove comments from Lincs Cricket Latest. We don't mind people expressing strong opinions, whether we agree with them or not. But we have to draw the line at bad language, even if disguised with the odd missing letter.
Fair comment is fine with us.

BBH GO THIRD
By Ann Boulton
Current champions Bracebridge Heath moved up to third place in the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League table after inflicting a heavy defeat on Skegness.
Aaron Keverne Onyon and Brett Houston each took five wickets as the seasiders were bowled out for 67 in less than 30 overs, a total Bracebridge overtook for the loss of two wickets.
At the foot of the table, Boston won the battle of the bottom two, Colin Cheer taking five wickets to pass the 30 mark for the season and Matthew Wooldridge hitting 66 for Hartsholme. Jonathan Cheer then took his runs total past the 650 mark with an unbeaten 103 to help Boston to an eight wicket win that took them within two per cent of Woodhall Spa who suffered a major batting collapse against Sleaford.
Batting first at Jubilee Park, Sleaford reached 226 for six, Tom Shorthouse making 69 and Dammika Gunawardena 66. With Jack Luffman back in the side, Woodhall got off to a good start and Ricky Lovelace and Fawad Alam with 57 pushed the score to 167 for two. However, both were caught off Shorthouse who went on to take six for 35 and the final wicket fell on 192.
Bourne marched on at the top with a 20 pointer at home to Louth who went down fighting after being bowled out for 185. At 134 for eight, the leaders were staring at a possible defeat until Tom Lindley came out to join David Christmas in an unbeaten partnership that took Bourne to victory.
Nettleham stay second despite a dogged Market Deeping defence that saw the Mulsanne Park side held to a draw.
Warren Nel took his runs total to 790 for the season with an unbeaten 135 and Matt O’Halloran hit 106 as Nettleham notched up the day’s highest score of 275 for four but Deeping hung on to make 207 for eight and take an extra three points from the game.
The closest match was at Lindum where the home side set Grimsby a total of 232 for eight, Pierce Morley Barnes and Alex Hornsby both making half centuries. Grimsby recovered from the loss of a wicket in the first over and at 187 for five and Perera on 71, the result could have gone either way.
Going into the 47th over, Grimsby were 202 for seven but with six balls to go had nine down and still needed 12 to win and the second ball of the final over brought a fifth wicket for Karanjit Bansal as the visitors were all out for 223.

CAISTOR MAINTAIN PROMOTION PUSH
By Andrew Richley, Market Rasen 2nds
Market Rasen Town Cricket Club 2nd XI made the short journey north to Caistor’s Brigg Road ground on Saturday on the back of three straight wins. However, Caistor lost no time in demonstrating to Rasen the work still to be done if they are to progress further. Both teams had a good blend of youth and experience, but it was Caistor’s players, young and old alike, who grabbed their chances as the home side eased to an 8 wicket victory.
Rasen won the toss and lost little time in choosing to bat on a track that, as one might expect following the weather of the last few weeks, was hard and true, with plenty of grass left on top to keep the bowlers interested. Caistor’s opening bowlers; Alex McKitton and Matthew Brown, found themselves ambushed by a brisk start from Richard Limmer who went off like a train. Unfortunately, as has often been the case this season, Limmer’s innings was cut short before it had really begun, caught and bowled by Brown for 18 with one ball of the second over left.
Shaun French and Andy Richley looked to retrench and found differing challenges from Caistor’s young openers; McKitton gave little away and found seam movement both into, and away from, the batsmen at a reasonable pace. Brown meanwhile offered the batsmen more opportunities, whilst getting some prodigious in-swing.
French mixed doughty defence with sudden bursts of savagery, with one swipe over wide long-on for four, off the bowling of Brown, standing out. However, once Caistor’s keeper stood up, French found himself rooted to the spot and inevitably fell for 17, edging a ball from Brown to first slip where an excellent low catch was held. Brown also dismissed Rob Chamberlin, caught off a high ball that the young batsman probably shouldn’t have tried to smear over the clubhouse and it was left to Richley to rebuild the innings with Tom Bradford.
Unfortunately for the visitors their skipper had to call for a runner, thanks to an injury to his hamstring and, as is often the case, the unfamiliar situation led to disaster for the batsman. Having looked in little trouble in accumulating 19, Richley called for a single and proceeded to wander out of the way, inadvertently leaving his crease as he did so. Not one to look a gift-horse in the mouth, Caistor’s ‘keeper whipped the bails off when the ball came back in with Richley still standing outside his crease.
On the back of this farcical dismissal, Rasen succumbed to the wiles of Ernie Allison and Terry McKitton as the veteran duo rolled up the rest of the line-up for a mere 25 runs to dismiss Rasen for 105, with Allison snaffling 4 for 12 in the process.
In the field Rasen’s performance was mixed, as a depleted attack created chances that they were unable, in the main, to take. With Nathan Davies bedding down at one end, Dave Gowshall and Andy Pearson felt free to crack on and whilst they flirted with danger on a number of occasions, Rasen’s fielders, Rob Chamberlin excepted, weren’t able to back their bowlers sufficiently to make the target a challenging one.
Two wickets for Paul Bett were the sole reward for Rasen’s efforts in the field as the home side eventually cantered to victory and left the Rase Park outfit with plenty to work on.

11 OFF ONE BALL!
By Ann Boulton
There was an unusual incident in the Grimsby Town KO on Monday. Under the rules, all no balls give away a free hit. The bowler bowled a no-ball which went wide of the batsman and wicktkeeper for four (so five runs). The free hit then went for six so technically it was 11 off that one ball.
Cracking game - Grimsby 185-5 off 16 x eight-ball overs, Messingham 189-4 with 14 balls to spare. 13 sixes and 30 fours in total
Jaco Scholtz is the App-Frod overseas player, Jacob Thorne was Messingham's a couple of years ago and is now playing in the Wakefield area.
Messingham (the holders) play Fenner, from Hull, in the final next Monday.

N LINCS U11s WIN COUNTY TOURNAMENT
By Patrick Tonks, Haxey CC
North Lincolnshire’s junior representative squad emulated the success of this year’s U14s by winning the Lincolnshire County Cricket Board Area Development Groups Annual Under 11 Hardball Tournament at Lindum Cricket Club on Friday, 23rd July.
The event has now been held nine times and it is the fifth occasion on which the Trophy has been won by players from the Scunthorpe area.
North beat North East, East and their closest rivals, South, thanks, in the main, to very strong batting performances.
Although the players were not made aware of it, only a catastrophic defeat against Lincoln District in their final match would prevent them securing overall victory, net runs coming into play when sides finished level on points.
A careless batting performance was chiefly responsible for their defeat by Lincoln, losing seven wickets in the eight overs of the innings. This was the same number lost in the previous three matches. However, the resulting reduction in net runs still left them well clear of their nearest rivals.

LUDDINGTON HIT BY BAD WEATHER
DIVISION ONE
Having put themselves right back into contention with Fishlake when beating them on July 15th, the last thing Luddington needed was the inclement weather that saw their home game v Goole Town cancelled due to wet conditions and the single point they gained means that Fishlake , who had a bye this week , need just one win from their two remaining games to clinch the title. Elsewhere, Sykehouse improved their hopes of avoiding the drop when they won a relegation battle at Burn who were restricted to 128 for 5 by Sykehouse before Gary Strephan guided the visitors home with 66 as they eased to 129 for 2, a result that leaves Burn four points adrift at the foot of the table and finally the scheduled game between Drax Village and Askern Welfare was postponed due to the wet conditions.
Burn v Sykehouse
Burn : 128 for 5
Sykehouse : 129 for 2 ( G Strephan 66 )
Result : Sykehouse win by 8 wickets
Drax Village v Askern Welfare. Postponed due to wet conditions, 1 pt each.
Luddington v Goole Town. Postponed due to wet conditions, 1 pt each.
DIVISION TWO
All three scheduled games in Division Two were lost to the weather, leaving Hirst Courtney a point clear of Hensall who have a game in hand, whilst Howden remain three points behind Carlton Towers at the other end of the table.

SCARBOROUGH FAIR GAME FOR MEGGIES
Charlie Tomlinson hits a six at Scarborough.
Peter Fulton smashes another massive six for Cleethorpes against Scarborough.
REPORT AND PICTURES KINDLY SUPPLIED BY GRAHAM HACKNEY
Cleethorpes' 1st X1 suffered contrasting fortunes last weekend when they made tough trips to two of the Yorkshire League’s strongest sides in Scarborough and York. On Saturday they came away with their first win at Scarborough’s North Marine Road ground since 2002 when they notched a superb five-wicket win. Batting second they chased down Scarborough’s competitive 191-8 with nearly eight overs to spare. After Scarborough’s openers had added 97 for the first wicket, Cleethorpes spinners Alex Osmond and Harry Clewett did a superb job to restrict them when a score in excess of 250 looked likely. Alex Osmond recorded Yorkshire League best figures of 7/61 while Clewett kept the batsmen check with 1/56 as the pair bowled unchanged for 42 overs. Despite losing Eddie Carlton (1) early, Bill Kirby and Peter Fulton added 40 for the second wicket with the Kiwi in dominant mood smashing three fours and three sixes on his way to 35 in 30 balls before miss-hitting to cover off a ball that kept low. Cleethorpes slipped to 62-4 when Judah (1) and Osmond (0) soon followed before a 62 run fifth wicket stand between Kirby and stand in Skipper Charlie Tomlinson (38) brought Cleethorpes back into the game. When he departed with the score on 124 the game could have swung either way but James Windeatt produced a gem of an innings hitting an unbeaten 42 in 49 balls as he and Kirby took Cleethorpes to their target. Kirby finished unbeaten on 48 having carried his bat facing 122 deliveries on a slow low pitch to give Cleethorpes a memorable win.

With both Alex Osmond and Andy Ellis unavailable for the trip to York, Cleethorpes' task was always going to be that much harder against the league leaders who boast a formidable batting line up. And so it proved as York racked up a mammoth 344-7 declared in 51 overs. Ex-Lincs batsman Simon Mason crashed a century in just 50 balls with Aussie Pro Dan Wilson hitting 151 in 158 balls as Cleethorpes’ bowlers struggled to find the answer on a feather bed wicket with short boundaries. To their credit they kept going to the end and Peter Fulton, who had bowled some 24 overs, gained some late reward to pick up 4/107. Jack Harrison also picked up two wickets at the death to record 2/65 in 10 with Nathan Judah the other wicket taker with only his second delivery. In reply Cleethorpes got off to a promising start with Carlton (36) and Kirby adding 65 for the first wicket before Carlton was trapped in front. A tired Fulton hit 14 but the middle-order put up little resistance to York’s spinners as they slipped to 166-9. Kirby was sixth man out running himself out for a fine 84 (109 balls) and it took some late hitting from Harrison (25) to drag Cleethorpes up to their final total of 186 to leave York winners by a massive 158 runs.
Bill Kirkby sweeps at York.
Back-to-back defeats saw Paul Sunley’s 2nd X1 slip further down the Lincs Premier league and also out of the George Marshall Trophy after losing against Scunthorpe and Bracebridge Heath 2nds respectively. Injured 1st X1 skipper James Osmond opened the batting against Scunthorpe in a pinch-hitting role that worked to perfection as he plundered 133 in just 109 balls including 17 fours and 4 sixes. Rob Griffin chipped in with 31 with Gary Cowlam hitting a late 26 to take Meggies to 246-7 in their 50 overs. However this was not enough as Ex-Cleethorpes player Simon Kiddle also added a ton as Scunthorpe romped home in the 48th over. Paul Sunley was the pick of the attack with 2/29 in 8 while Rob Brice took 1/41 in six. They were to suffer more disappointment the following day when they travelled to Lincoln for the quarter final of the George Marshall Trophy against Bracebridge. Batting first they made 187-9 in their 45 overs with Sunley hitting 54 while Rob Griffin made 29 and Rich Griffin 27. An invaluable tenth wicket stand of 31 between Ryan Harrison and Stuart Harvey dragged Cleethorpes up to a competitive total. Deprived of their two opening bowlers to the first team, Cleethorpes put up a valiant fight and had Bracebridge eight down when they hit the winning runs. Sunley picked up 2/22 in his nine overs with Harvey taking 2/39 in his nine. Rob Griffin added 3/56 in nine as Cleethorpes battled all the way but Bracebridge closed out the game in the 38th over.
Cleethorpes' 3rd X1 remain in relegation trouble after a six-wicket defeat at Alford on Saturday. They made only 120-7 in their 45 overs which Alford took 28.3 overs to reach for the loss of four wickets. Dan Tolson (29), Sturat Harvey (21) and Martin Twyman (20) all got starts but it was left to skipper Paul Hewstone (34no) to take Cleethorpes to their first batting point. Alford had little trouble reaching their target but were held up by Jeff Todd 3/35 in 13 overs while Harvey took the other wicket.
Mirroring the 3rd X1, Cleethorpes 4ths remain second bottom of the Second Division after another poor display at Caistor 2nds. Batting first they set 127-7 in their 45 overs. Bob Leafe, hampered by a hamstring injury made a brave 51 with only Jack Gibson (29no) and Mike Shelton (15) adding support. In reply Caistor cantered to victory in the 36th over for the loss of three wickets. Mike Shelton produced a good spell to record 2/49 in 16 overs while Sam Would chipped in with 1/7 in two overs.
To compound a poor weekend for Cleethorpes, their North Lindsey side went down by 62 runs at home to Scunthorpe Town on Sunday. Chasing Scunthorpe’s 205-9 in 40 overs, Cleethorpes ran out of steam to finish 143 all out in the 40th over. Matty Owen recorded season’s best figures of 5/48 in 12 fiery overs to keep Scunthorpe in check and Tom Latimer added a useful 1/16 in six overs. John Mansfield hit a fine 50 to give Cleethorpes hope while Reece Holberry produced some late fireworks in hitting 26 not out.
THIS WEEKEND
After five successive away games, Cleethorpes' 1st X1 finally return home when they face Sheffield United at Chichester Road this Saturday (12 Noon Start). Cleethorpes' 2nds travel to Appleby Frodingham in the Lincs Premier league on Sunday. Paul Hewstone and Kris Richardson 3rd and 4th X1s have important games at Scothern and home to Market Rasen (Stamford Club 1.30pm start) respectively this Saturday. Rounding off the weekend are the North and East Lindsey sides who are both in action on Sunday. Top of the table, the North Lindsey X1 face Marshalls of Gainsborough (2pm Start) with the Academy X1 entertaining Friskney at the Stamford Club (2pm).

N. LINCS U14s SECURE SECOND TITLE OF YEAR
By Patrick Tonks, Haxey CC
Having won the Lincolnshire County Cricket Board Districts U14 Festival at Boston CC at the start of June, North Lincolnshire went into the Sunday League programme confident that they could secure this Title also.
The quest got off to a damp start with their first match against North East Lincolnshire at Outcasts CC, which had to be abandoned due to rain. It rained through most of the play which was possible and the officials had to call a halt when the outfield became so wet that that the ball could not be dried.
Much better weather was enjoyed for the remaining three fixtures.
At Scothern CC, they bowled Lincoln District out for 114 in 27.4 overs, the Player of the Festival, Liam Hebblewhite of Alkborough, taking 5-18 in 6 overs. Sensible batting, in particular by Appleby Frodingham’s Zain Akter and Outcasts’ Josh Bramhil, secured a comfortable five-wicket victory.
The Festival match against East Lincolnshire did not take place due to rain, so the opposition was something of an unknown entity.
Having been put into bat at Messingham CC, North scored 227-3 in their 40 overs with Barton’s Dominic Bishop making an unbeaten 121, which included 18 fours and one six - off the final ball of the innings.
East were bowled out for 115 with the Outcasts’ spinners Josh Bramhill (3 wickets) and Ben Wicks (4 wickets) profiting from some loose shots (6 of the 7 wickets fell to catches) as batsmen tried to score runs off the slower bowlers having been pinned back by the pace attack, most notably captain Ethan Tonks of Haxey who returned figures of 6-4-4-1.
In the final match at Grantham CC against South Lincolnshire, North batted first and made 234-8, with five batsmen failing to capitalise on the good starts they made. Having made a patient 34 in the previous match, Messingham’s Jamie Bend made an excellent 68 not out having been at the crease for the first and last deliveries of the innings.
Having to play on an artificial pitch neutralised the effects of the two spinners and with the medium-pacers either unavailable or carrying injuries, Barton’s Liam Parker was asked to bowl for the first time this season with the score at 66-4 after 17 overs. After an erratic first over returned 1-12, he capitalised on some poor batting and finished with 5-25 from 5.4 overs.
Bramhill and Wicks were the only newcomers to the squad this year. The backbone of the side has played District cricket for three or four seasons. The spinners brought the missing pieces to the jigsaw and ensured that the side was able to outplay all of their opponents in every department and it was notable how the side’s self-belief grew following that first victory at the Festival. After holding their collective nerve in an unbelievably tense finish, [taking seven wickets for twenty five runs in twenty seven deliveries to win by four runs with ten deliveries remaining] no subsequent situation gave them cause for concern; they knew that within the team there was always someone who could turn the game in their favour.
The Under 12 District side matched their Festival record in the Sunday League – two wins and one defeat - and the LCCB’s recent announcement that the U14 competition is to be replaced next year by the creation of a County B squad has been met with disappointment by most players and parents alike. The District competitions are to be at U10 and U12 next year, with North Lincolnshire coaching for each age group to begin in mid-October.
This Friday, 23rd July, sees the U11s try to emulate the success of their elder counterparts in the Annual LCCB Hardball Festival at Lindum CC. North Lincolnshire has been the most successful District at this event since its inauguration in 2002 and this year’s squad will do well to match the achievements of several young players now making their mark in the Premier Division of the Lincolnshire County League.

No doubt there will be plenty of ale consumed during this tour and we have our fingers crossed that the weather will be good for us that week."

SHIELD WINNERS
By Glen Sands
Goole Town deservedly lifted the Snaith League Shield when defeating Sykehouse by 10 wickets at Carlton Towers , producing an all round quality performance after finishing runners up last season.
Sykehouse batted first on a dull and overcast evening but just could'nt get going at all as the young Goole side bowled magnificently , restricting them to 53 all out , Ben Lamb taking an impressive 5 for 7 with good backing from Mark Spetch who picked up 3 for 8 and Richard Mann who finished with 2 for 3 , skipper Lee Hayward taking three catches whilst commanding his troups impecably , Chris Marshall top scoring for Sykehouse with 20 runs. Having posted such a low score it was imperative that Sykehouse made early inroads into the Goole batting but sadly for them it never materialised as that man Hayward lead from the front along with Andy Rodgers and they quickly established a hold on the bowling to guide Town to a comfortable victory , Hayward making 25 not out and Rodgers 30.
Hayward picked up the Man of the Match award for his impressive captaincy along with his batting and at the end of the match league chairman Jimmy Smith , who had umpired the match with Drax stalwart Ralph Maud, thanked Carlton Towers for producing an exceptional wicket to host the ancient competition.

Bourne took over at the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League as Louth inflicted a surprise defeat on last week’s leaders Skegness.
Fahad Masood scored his second century in successive weeks to help Bourne to 278 for eight at Market Deeping who were then bowled out for 178.
Meanwhile Skegness were set a modest total of 162 after Saeed Bariwala had claimed five Louth wickets. But Seth Rance and Stewart West exploited a turning Richmond Road pitch with Rance, who had earlier top scored with 38, taking four for 26 and West finishing with three wickets to help bowl the home side out for 102.
Nettleham took advantage of the seasiders’ defeat to move up to second with 17-year-old Tom Dalton seeing his side to a three wicket victory with an unbeaten 77 at Augusta Street after Grimsby were bowled out for 161.
Louth’s win moved them up another place above Market Deeping while Woodhall Spa stayed tenth following their win at Hartsholme but have opened up a gap over the bottom two.
Ben Davis hit 93 for Hartsholme whose 50 overs ended on 194 for nine, Fawad Alam taking six wickets and 16-year-old wicketkeeper Jack Hughes bagging five dismissals for the visitors. Alam then hit 71 as Woodhall went on to win by four wickets.
At Cross O’Cliff Court, in an almost carbon copy of their early season game, Bracebridge Heath were bowled out by Boston for 168, Colin Cheer taking five wickets, only for the visitors to go down by 30 runs as Brett Houston claimed seven victims.
Lindum and Sleaford remain locked together in mid-table after their game at London Road which saw Sleaford go above their opponents after bowling them out for 169. Jonathan Miles took five of the Lindum wickets and Dammika Gunawardena and Matthew Mountain both made half centuries in the home side’s five-wicket victory.

MATT FINISH ADDS GLOSS FOR TOWN
By Glen Sands
Leaders Cleethorpes 5ths suffered a set back to their hopes of retaining the North Lindsey Cricket League division one title when they were beaten by Scunthorpe 4ths at Chichester Road, where Matt Pashley hit a tremendous 93 as Scunthorpe set a target of 205 then pitched in with three wickets when the Meggies were bowled out for 143 , Josh Pasley going one better when taking four wickets.
DIVISION TWO
Leaders Grimsby Town 3rds scored 206 for 7 at Hibaldstow 2nds thanks to 74 from Grainger and 45 from Hinchcliffe, Lol Waghorn taking 4 for 42 for 'Stow who comfortably chased down their target for the loss of just three wickets , Dale Coy scoring 96 not out and Jon Taylor 77 , and that result allowed Broughton 3rds to close the gap at the top to just two points following their narrow six runs victory at Outcasts where Nick Crawford hit 70 when Broughton made 156 for 9 , Craig McAnaney taking 3 for 32 only for the Priorymen to fall six short when replying with 150 for 8 , Graeme Fletcher scoring a career best 47 whilst Rob Glentworth took 3 for 39 for Broughton. Sadly for the Isle side that defeat means they slip to bottom of the table after Brigg Town 3rds won at Wheatley & Leverton who were bowle out for 117 , Callum Harrison top scoring with 70 as Phil Dewfall picked up 3 foer 23 then Paul Reed ( 38 ) and Ryan Musslewhite ( 30 ) guided Brigg to the narrowest of victories with only one wicket to spare. Finally in Division Two Haxey set a total of 172 for 6 when entertaining Alkborough 3rds , Rob Young hitting 65 and Aaron Moody 48 with Neil Gray taking 3 for 21 for Borough who in reply were bowled out for 150 , Ben Walker top scoring with 35 as Oliver Tonks picked up 4 for 25 and Gunesena 3 for 27 for Haxey.
DIVISION THREE
Barton Academy Vikings are in pole position at the top of Division Three now following their 62 runs victory over an improving Epworth, Jeremy Evans making 58 not out and Bradley Graves 30 in the Vikings total of 206 for 6 then Epworth made the Barton youngsters work hard for victory when replying with 144 , Dean Elviss hitting 54 not out as Tom Palin took 4 for 21. Luddington lost ground on the Vikings when their scheduled game at Upton cum Kexby was postponed due to wet conditions and that allowed Misterton 2nds to close to within four points of the Isle side when they eased to a 9 wickets victory over Everton 3rds whom they bowled out for 86 before Misterton cruised to their target.

DON'T BETT AGAINST RASEN
Report (and headline) by Andy Richley, Market Rasen 2nds
Paul Bett’s 5 for 19 in the veteran’s Lincs League debut saw Market Rasen 2nds to a convincing 125 win at Brigg on Saturday in Lincs League 4. Combined with Scunthorpe 3rds unexpected 14-run victory at South Kelsey the result leaves the bottom side with it all to do to avoid re-election and further strengthens Rasen’s mid-table position.
A young Rasen side made the short trip north on the back of three wins from four to visit a Brigg side who, thanks to their tough first-half schedule, have been languishing in the lower reaches of the table most of the season. Initial impressions for the visitors were mixed as they were confronted by a wicket that was hard to distinguish from the outfield, however, this was balanced by the fact that Brigg were clearly missing a number of first team regulars, including ‘skipper Dylan Hildreth.
Brigg won the toss and lost little time in choosing to bowl on a wicket that promised to offer plenty of challenges to the batsmen. Paul Ellis and R. Throp opened for Brigg with Ellis immediately asking plenty of questions of the batsmen as they repeatedly played and missed outside off stump. Throp found it harder to find a consistent line and length and was duly punished, particularly by Luke Richards (44) who was severe on anything dropped short, pulling the ball with aplomb and unleashing a wide range of shots. With Shaun French grinding out a gritty 22 from 65 balls at the other end, Rasen’s opening pair put on 60 in 19 overs before Ellis finally got some reward for his tireless efforts, having French caught behind.
With the pitch doing plenty it was vital that Rasen consolidated their position and, thanks to a fine knock from skipper Andy Richley, they did just that. Joining Richards the pair set about bedding in before the young opener’s ambition got the better of him and he was bowled by a fine yorker from Ollie Kilgallon. Kilgallon continued his excellent spell, proving to be the only Brigg bowler, other than Ellis, capable of exerting any kind of control over the Rasen lineup with Rob Chamberlin his next victim, bowled by one that pitched on middle and took off.
Whilst wickets fell at the other end, Richley settled in and started to take advantage of the short boundary on the Brigg Town side of the ground, with the change bowling taking some punishment once Ellis and Kilgallon has been seen off. Stands of 40 with Tom Bradford (16) and then Rory Jackson saw Rasen’s skipper post his second half-century in three weeks as he accumulated 74 before finally succumbing to a ‘popping’ ball with a couple of overs left. Jackson (15*) shepherded the tail past 200 as Rasen posted 205 for 7 from their 45 overs, an imposing total considering the assistance on offer for the bowlers.
Gary Smith and Dave Kilgallon opened Brigg’s reply in enterprising style, climbing into anything short from Rasen’s opening bowlers, of which there was plenty, to rocket to 54 in nine overs before Richley had Smith taken at first slip from a ball that popped and took the batsman’s glove. Tom Bradford’s casual one-handed catch sending the opener on his way for 24. D. Kilgallon continued to rage against the dying of the light with a fine 32, but was the next batsman to have the pitch get the better of him as Richley’s next over saw a catch claimed at silly mid-on, again from a ball that bounced more than expected, leaving Brigg 61 for 2.
At this point Paul Bett turned his Lincs League debut into an exhibition, claiming 5 for 19 in 8 overs, including two victims caught and bowled. Throp could only watch from the other end as Bett cut through Brigg’s lineup in a manner that bodes well for the remainder of Rasen’s season, until he became Bett’s fourth victim. Despite some fine shots from R. Eagles at the end, Brigg were bundled out for 80 in the 20th over as Rasen earned their third successive win. The Rase Park outfit have left it a little late to secure anything other the mid-table anonymity this season, but this weekend’s forthcoming fixture with Caistor 3rds will be a good barometer of how far the young side have really improved over the last couple of months and whether or not they might have more to look forward to in 2011.

WE NEED A LEAGUE SECRETARY
The Lincolnshire County Cricket League needs a general secretary to replace Mike Savage (Old Lincolnians CC) who will be retiring at the annual meeting in October.
Hard-working Mike gave the league a full year's notice of his intention to step down from the hot seat. However, in the months that have passed since the 2009 AGM, no-one has come forward to say they will take over.
At Wednesday's mid-season meeting, Chairman Bob Welton (Holton-le-Clay) again asked clubs whether they knew of someone who would step forward for election to the post. Again his request was met by silence.
Duties include taking the minutes of meetings, dealing with correspondence, helping with the organisation of the annual dinner and overseeing the production of the league handbook. Applicants should have email/internet access and experience of cricket administration at club, or league, level.
If you are interested, or know someone who might be within your club, please contact Mike for further details. E-mail mikesavage199@btinternet.com

WHO ATE ALL RALPH'S PIES?
Ralph Gray is one of our most senior umpires on the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League panel. However, yesterday he stood in a Lincolnshire League division one game at Hirst Priory, Outcasts. A very nice tea was served and he had his eye on a tasty strawberry-topped cake. Ralph got up from the table and went off to get another cuppa. But when he came back, he found a spectator had got there first and made off with his pie. Hearing his protestations, one of the tea ladies came out the kitchen with a replacement. And even better news followed.
For Ralph won the bottle of wine - first prize in the raffle.

OLD TRADITIONS DIE HARD
The traditional Old Boys v School fixture, whose history stretches back decades, was played out between Sir John Nelthorpe School, Brigg, and a team representing the Briggensians' Association. The Old Boys won - approximate scores being OB 118 School 103, off 14 8-ball overs.
Old Boys included Dave Willey (Bottesford and Brigg), Tom Brock (Broughton and Brigg), Liam Redmond (Scunthorpe Town) and Andy Sharp (Keelby). The School XI included Ryan Musselwhite (Broughton). Batsmen had to retire at 25 - a milestone reached by Ryan and Andy. Hopefully, the fixture will continue in 2011. There aren't many Old Boys v School games still played in Lincolnshire, although they used to be very common.
On a personal level I was very disappointed to miss the game, due to it being re-arranged from the original date and therefore clashing with a friend's retirement party. The first time I encountered Old Boys v School was in 1972 when I played for what was then Brigg Grammar against the Briggensians. However, the fixture goes back a lot further than that.
Hopefully, I will be called upon to get the old bat out of the garage for the 2011 game.

LUDD BEAT LEADERS
By Glen Sands
Luddington kept their hopes of repeating last season's title victory when beating Snaith Evening League division one leaders Fishlake by four wickets in a low-scoring match on the Isle on Thursday.
Fishlake chose to bat first but quickly found themselves one down when spin king Anthony Fitzgerald had in form opener Josh Mason caught at backward square by Jamie Belton having scored just one with the total on eleven and he was followed by Kev Pearson , caught and bowled by Fitzgerald , he too having made just a single. The impressive Fitzgerald picked up a third wicket when Matt Mason was caught by Andy Lawson for three with the overall score standing at 31 then Scott Buttrick clean bowled Wallbank with the total on 36. Alex Fletcher produced an excellent piece of fielding to run out danger man Richard Copley for five and at 46 for 5 things were looking grim for the visitors. Opener Alderson had watched from the other end as the wickets tumbled but he was standing firm , accumulating runs with an array of shots and along with number seven batsman Shelton they moved the score up to 63 before Buttrick produced a terrific yorker to remove Shelton for nine. Peter Tait then took centre stage , picking up three for six in just two overs including an impressive caught and bowled effort that saw Alderson out for 46 valuable runs and Graeme Fletcher then wrapped up the innings when he had Ryan Pearson caught by Darren Clark for two , leaving Fishlake on a mediocre 74 all out.
Darren Clark suffered a first ball duck when being caught and bowled by Matt Mason with the score on just three then Jamie Belton and Oliver Coulman took the total to 23 before Belton was caught off the bowling of Josh Mason for eight. Coulman looked untroubled as he confidently struck the ball to the boundary whilst Peter Tait assisted with nine then he was third out , caught by Matt Mason off Ken Round and when skipper Andy Lawson was run out following some excellent fielding from Richard Cropley Ludd were stuttering at 58 for 4. Scott Buttrick was then adjudged caught behind by Shelton off Round without scoring and it became even more nervy for the Isle side when Coulman was caught by Alderson off Kev Pearson for an excellent 40. At 61 for 6 it needed someone to step up to the plate and sure enough Anthony Fitzgerald and Charlie Mason did just that for Luddington guiding them to victory in the 17th over and three valuable points , Fitzgerald making six not out and Mason seven moving them to within two points of Fishlake in the table now with just two games remaining.
The battle for the title is most certainly still on.
Division Two
Hirst Courtney are making a dash for the title and they certainly made their intentions clear when scoring an amazing 195 for 0 at Sturgethorpe , B Howard hitting 97 not out and P Alford 90 and wickets were in short supply when Sturgethorpe replied , Hirst picking up just one as the hosts reached 124 for 1 , Shafta scoring 65 and Watson 51 not out. Hensall v Goole Firemen was cancelled due to Hensall having to play catch up on their fixtures elsewhere whilst finally in Division Two David Hoe hit 36 for Carlton Towers who leapfrogged Howden Town at the foot of the table , Carlton overhauling Howden's 104 for 6 with their own total of 106 for 4.
Division Three
Pollington moved level at the top with Airmyn who had no game , beating Thorne Colliery by 4 wickets after Thorne had made 105 for 4 , James Stewart hitting 53 and Martin 20 for the Colliery side before Hall ( 29 ) and Paul Baker ( 28 not out ) took Pollington to 109 for 6 and finally bottom club Drax Village 2nds continue to show signs of improvement following their third win of the season , this time against Eggborough who were bowled out for 100 , Scott Dyson top scoring with 46 only for Drax to reply with 101 for 5 , Aiden Coulbeck hitting 36 for Drax for whom Chris Calvert had earlier taken 3 for 20 in the Eggborough innings.

NORMAL SERVICE TO BE RESUMED SHORTLY
Apologies for the lack of posts in the past 48 hours. Last night it was in from work and straight off to Market Rasen for the Lincs League's mid-season meeting; tonight, much the same, but it's the Scunthorpe and District Umpires' get-together at Appleby-Frodingham CC's Brumby Hall HQ.

TESTING TIME FOR BRACEBRIDGE
By Ann Boulton
Woodhall Spa unleashed the secret weapon they hope will stave off relegation from the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League – and Pakistani Test and ODI player Fawad Alam didn’t disappoint, taking five wickets and hitting 140 runs to help defeat Bracebridge Heath.
Batting first, the current champions set a challenging total of 239 for eight, Paul Cook making 81 and Alam finishing with five for 49 before blasting his 140 off 112 balls with 11 fours and 10 sixes, ably assisted by Sam Evison with 39 and Ben Percival with an unbeaten 46 off 42 balls which took the home side to a seven wicket win.
Alam’s fellow countryman, Fahad Masood, had an equally good day for Bourne to keep them in second place. Masood hit 105 of the home side’s 257 for nine with Ben Stroud scoring 34 and Charlie Hopkins 33 in two productive wicket partnerships with their overseas player who then took five for 43 as visitors Grimsby were restricted to 176 for nine.
This keeps Grimsby in fifth place while Skegness ensured they stayed top with a 20-point win over Boston who were left chasing 246 for six, but fell to 140 all out, Steve Kirkham claiming six of the wickets.
Nettleham moved up to third above Bracebridge Heath after a low scoring game against Sleaford at Mulsanne Park. The home side made 179 for nine while Sleaford could manage only 129 for nine, Andy Carter taking six wickets for Nettleham.
Lindum climbed to sixth and at the same time consigned Hartsholme to bottom place behind Boston. Put into bat at St Giles Avenue, the home side had reached 182 for nine, Karanjit Bansal with 41 and Luke Robinson making 61.
Then Oliver Guilliatt joined Dale Christie at the crease for a partnership that set the game alight, Christie hitting 40 off 21 balls with two sixes and four four as the pair added 44 for the final wicket before Christie was bowled by Martin Shillito to give him his fifth wicket.
Matt Rutherford and Bansal then took full advantage of a spinners’ wicket to take six for 31 and four for 42 respectively and bowl the visitors out for 87.
Louth finally found some batting form and eased their relegation worries as they reached 271 for five at home to Market Deeping, Graham West with 60 and Joe Irving 53, both unbeaten. Deeping were then bowled out for 159.

14TH - REPEAT 14TH
Just to stress again that the Lincolnshire League's mid-season meeting is tomorrow (Wed July 14) and not the 21st, as stated in the Handbook. Some calls and emails have been received from folk double-checking the 14th as the correct date. A note about the correct date was emailed to clubs some weeks ago.

RASEN STROLL TO FIRST LEAGUE DOUBLE
A balmy weekend saw the bowlers on top at Rase Park, for a change, as Market Rasen 2nds’ pace attack took advantage of a helpful pitch and humid conditions to run through a Keelby 2nds line-up shorn of its key cog - opener Andy Sharp.
With the sun beating down and the teams set to use the same track that Rasen had amassed 246-8 on the week before, Jeremy Slater won the toss for Keelby and lost no time in choosing to bat. In retrospect, it was a decision that shaped the course of the game, but at the time, was one that either skipper would have made.
Bruce Roberts replaced Sharp at the top of the order with Tony Renney, with Roberts looking to re-discover the form that had brought him 90 against Caistor earlier in the season. Rasen’s opening bowlers started in contrasting fashion; Dan Norburn steamed in from the River Rase end and made life hard for the batsmen from the off. From the Pavilion end Aaron Wells welcomed Roberts with a pair of full tosses outside off stump that were duly crunched through the covers for a pair of boundaries as the Keelby stalwart’s railway-sleeper of a bat battered the ball. Whilst Wells wasn’t ‘tapped’, he didn’t fire as he had in the last few games and only lasted five overs before being replaced by Darren Salmon.
Whilst Wells was struggling for rhythm at the other end, Norburn was finding the variable bounce and seam movement on offer to his liking, forcing Renney to prod the ball to short cover and then bowling Dan Bevis. Salmon struck almost immediately, Dan Mawer edging behind after a promising, if fast, start and Rasen were truly up and running when Roberts, who to this point had observed from the non-striker’s end with something approaching disdain, top edged an attempted smash off Norburn to provide Rory Jackson with a steepling catch at mid-on, which the youngster snaffled safely. The opener’s 24 was to be the only score in double-figures until M. Wade’s merry 11 at the end and had shown the value on offer for the batsmen but, unfortunately for Keelby, the rest of the line-up were unable to gain a foothold long enough to emulate him.
Once Roberts fell Salmon and Norburn worked through the rest of the lineup, backed up by a keen fielding performance that, for the first time this season, saw not a single chance grassed and some fine catching, in particular Richard Limmer’s diving effort at cover to dismiss Paul Parker with Keelby were dismissed for 89 in the 24th over. Norburn finished with 5 for 29 and Salmon with 5 for 18.
As is so often the case in the second innings, whilst the demons in the pitch were still present, they were nowhere near as pronounced. Salmon and Ivan Nash set about knocking off the runs with, seemingly, little difficulty until the former retired hurt with a pulled groin. This gave Keelby a way in as Andy Richley struggled to get going, before being bowled, George Fussey shared the same fate, followed by Ivan Nash, who had looked untroubled to that point in his 28.
It was left to Richard Limmer (17*) and Rob Chamberlin to knock the runs off and see Rasen home in the 19th over. Rasen’s third win of the season sees them leapfrog Keelby and Hykeham and soar up to the heady heights of sixth in Lincs League Division Four. However, this season’s unbalanced schedule means that five of their last nine games will be against the triumvirate of South Kelsey, Caistor and Old Lincolnians, so they’ll be out to garner whatever’s on offer when they visit Brigg on Saturday for what the home team will surely be viewing as a vital encounter.
