JULY 14 & 17 SNAITH EVENING CRICKET LEAGUE ROUND-UP BY GLEN SANDS

MONDAY JULY 14 - ARTHUR BRANT TROPHY FINAL
Carlton Towers lifted the first silverware of the season on July 14th when they beat Sykehouse by seven wickets at Hensall where they restricted Sykehouse to 115 for 9 , Gary Strephan hitting 36 while Rob Holah took 3 for 18 and Dawson 3 for 19 then Scott Woffenden saw his team home with 61 in their total of 118 for 3.

THURSDAY JULY 17 - SNAITH & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
The title race was thrown open on July 17th when leaders Goole Town suffered their first defeat of the season , going down to Askern Welfare by 47 runs and giving second placed Outcasts renewed hope of overhauling Town at the top with just two weeks to go. Aaron Gillies top scored for Askern with 66 not out in a score of 166 for 6 before Town replied with 119 for 7 , Louis Sugden making 63 with Sash Madapatha picking up 3 for 14 from his four overs. Fishlake missed the chance to close the gap on Goole following their defaet at the hands of Thorne Colliery where Josh Yeoman hit 48 and Kev Pearson 32 when Fishlake set a target of 124 for 5 but Ash Langdale made 62 not out and Connor Pattison 32 not out as Thorne eased to 125 for 1 to improve their hopes of avoiding a bottom two finish. Finally Airmyn also gave their chances of climbing out of the  relegation places when they beat fellow strugglers Howden in a closely fought contest that ended with just four runs seperating the teams. Bramham hit 33 for Airmyn in a total of 92 all out , A Smith taking 4 for 15 and Naylor 3 for 23 then Bodycombe made 26 in reply for Howden who finished on 88 for 8 , just four tantalising runs short of their target , O'Hara capturing 3 for 14 for Airmyn.

SNAITH & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
It remains a two horse race at for the title in Division Two with both Carlton Towers and Sykehouse locked on 26 points and both now just one win away from assuring promotion. Carlton were given a tough game at Hensall who scored 122 for 5 when batting first , Richard Whaley scoring 50 not out and Calvert 33 as Mark Holmes took 3 for 7 then Rob Holah hit 52 not out and Scott Woffenden 36 as Carlton reached 123 for 5 in replywhilst Sykehouse hit the biggest total of the evening when entertaining Eggborough , posting a score of 176 for 4 thanks to Phil Sanders who made 66 and Gary Strephan who hit 35 and Strephan then starred with the ball too when taking 3 for 5 as Eggborough were restricted to 82 for 6. Hirst Courtney climbed into third spot after they beat Pollington by five wickets who made 115 for 4 when batting first , Lawson top scoring with 46 then Phil Alford made 52 not out and Knight 22 as Hirst reached 117 for 5 with Pollington's Smales taking 3 for 18 and finally Drax Village celebrated their first win of the season when they went to promotion hopefuls Burn and came away with the points. David Watson scored 34 not out as Burn made 135 for 6 , Murray taking 3 for 19 for Drax who then replied with 136 for 2 as Morris hit 72 not out and Worley 29 not out to guide them to that elusive first victory.
