GRIMSBY TOWN CRICKET KNOCKOUT FIRST SEMI-FINAL

Umpire Steve Boulton presenting the man of the match award to Joe Farmery.
In echoes of the previous week’s match, Steve Crossley’s Grimsby team powered their way to the final of the Handlesbanken-sponsored Grimsby Town Knock Out with a batting display that left Caistor chasing a total of 207 for five.
Having elected to field, Caistor could only watch as Joe Farmery and Harry Clewett blasted 70 runs off the first four eight-ball overs.  Two overs later, Clewett was stumped by Lane Tutty off the Matt Fowler for 42 which came in just 24 balls with three sixes and four fours.
Indie Hayre then continued the onslaught and by the half way stage, Grimsby were 116 for one.
With 133 on the board, Farmery was finally caught behind off Paul Hilton for 52 which took him just 32 balls with three sixes and four fours.
A mix uIp with Hayre saw Dale Christie run out to give Caistor some hope of slowing the run rate but skipper Steve Crossley rose to the challenge.
Hayre was out to a catch by Fowler off the bowling of Rory Ronaldson for 39, in which he hit two sixes but Crossley batted on to make an unbeaten 43 off 22 balls with three sixes and four fours.
The interval saw Grimsby seeking a substitute fielder after Hayre suffered a wrist injury.  Hayden Tice stepped into the breach and Grimsby opened the bowling with 17 year old Bailey Mawer whose second ball had Harry Boulton caught behind by Crossley.
And worse was to come for Caistor as in the same over, Mawer bowled Tutty, while the second over saw Harry Warwick out lbw to Lee Charlton to make it 11 for three. The challengers never recovered from these early blows despite the efforts of Andy Pearson who hit 33. Mawer took two more wickets in successive balls – one a good catch by Tice - to give him figures of four for 36 and Charlton took three for 26 as Caistor were all out for 83.
Farmery’s innings brought him the man of the match award, sponsored by Ice Fresh Seafoods.  In the final on July 21, Grimsby will play the winners of the other semi-final between Lincolnshire Cavaliers and Fenner.
