JULY 19 SOUTH LINCS & BORDER CRICKET LEAGUE

Grantham suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Stamford Town in the South Lincolnshire & Border League Premier Division.
With their nearest rivals Boston and Lindum Ramblers rained off, the leaders could have opened up a substantial gap at the top.  But Stamford had other ideas and after Grantham had completed their innings on 184 for seven, the home side gave chase, overtaking their opponents’ total with just two balls of the game to go.
Seven points now separate top and second with Ramblers seven behind Boston who are their opponents next week when Grantham play fourth placed Bourne 2nd who lost to Sleaford 2nd by six wickets.
Matt Haslam topped the day’s bowling figures with seven wickets for Woodhall Spa 2nd in their victory over Welby.
Market Deeping 2nd moved back into contention at the top of Division One with a six wicket win over Cavaliers.  Deeping now lie third, seven points behind Grantham 2nd who beat Friskney, while leaders Spalding 2nd recorded the day’s highest total with 235 before bowling Boston 2nd out for 145.
Heckington were once again involved in a nailbiter, this time at Long Sutton 2nd where rain reduced the game to 30 overs a side.  Chris Morley made an unbeaten 49 in Heckington’s 119 for five - and at the close Long Sutton were just two short of their target on 117 for seven.
In Division Two, Lindum 3rd and Freiston have opened up a gap over third placed Claypole.  Lindum lead Freiston by seven points after beating Timberland by just one wicket while Freiston claimed a five wicket win over Burgh & District and Claypole beat Pinchbeck.
